The reason why I want to conduct this study is that in the past years there was this general concept that domestic violence is on the rise only in the third-world nations but now when we consider the magnitude of this problem we come to realize that this is becoming an epidemic for almost every nation now for example, according to a survey conducted in the United States, 28% of women reported at least one episode of physical violence from their partner. Similarly in Japan, 59% of 796 women surveyed in 1993 reported being physically abused by their partner. So through this paper, I intend to highlight some major areas regarding this issue and devise strategies and interventions that will help to combat this epidemic.

PREVIOUS RESEARCH OR COMMUNITY WORK SUPPORTING THE NEED FOR THIS THESIS:

A lot of work and research on this issue has been done by every country and especially international organizations like UNICEF that work with different partners to address domestic violence in many countries, The United Nations regional campaigns coordinated by UNIFEM, UNFPA UNFPA supports research on the prevalence of domestic violence, World Health Organizations, United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW). My work on this thesis supports the work done by these communities and organizations and will firstly, help in bringing this issue again into the limelight so that the communities can realize the utmost importance in dealing with it before more damage is done and will secondly, help the international organizations, local communities and non-government organization, as well as government, to use the strategies and intervention I will propose to combat this epidemic to our society.

POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE THESIS:

As I have already mentioned that this thesis will help to bring the issue into the limelight so that the government of every nation can realize the importance and need for an urgent solution to this devastating problem and will also involve the government so that they can help their local communities to gradually and slowly overcome domestic violence but one thing that raises many questions of concern is that, still in many third world countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan the government has not taken any serious steps against this issue and almost 70% of the male of these nations treat their wives and daughters as their commodity rather than human beings and does not allow the local women welfare organizations and government to interfere in their family matters and even in their parliaments these issues are not taken seriously. I believe that it is high time that nations should come out of their political stanza and take some serious actions.
