This paper assesses the essence of love and the intrigues that cause separation. It aptly reflects on the relevance of establishing relationships and the causation of separation. The paper is supported by practical applications as embodied in two films,” Kramer vs. Kramer “and “When Harry Met Sally.” The Types of love The movie “Kramer vs. Kramer is depictive of a relationship turned sour as Meryl Streep get psychologically tortured since she has to depart from her family. Two years of emotional separation, Streep realizes that she needs back her some form the embattled father. She achieves her desire by fighting her husband for custody. The Joanne manifests a love entangled with retaliations for every perceived wrongdoing. Streep portrays an emotional relationship occasioned by heartbreak from a divorce and the ensuing struggle between work and family demands. Ted is a young father and a husband who finds himself at odds trying to balance between his love for the family and his high-pressure career. Difficulty in balancing between the two equally demanding responsibilities of fatherhood and career forces Ted into compromising one (the family). He at times spends much of his time on the job at the expense of the family (Welwood 112). The film episodically exposes the love that Ted has for his job when he returns home very late in the night and is confronted by the wife, Meryl Streep. In essence, Ted is diabolically in a crisis of love. Joanne seems not to recognize the troubles the Ted encounters in trying to merge the two. After the confrontation, Meryl Streep divorces the husband (Ted) thus leaving him a desperate sole caregiver to their young son. This episode marks a recognizable inconsiderate love. Leaving the young son to the dad displays the inability of Joanne to think her love for Ted (Welwood 62). The child, therefore, is a sacrificial lamb for the actions of the father. The aftermath of the painful break up between Streep and Ted imposes him to learn to balance between sole caregiving and the strenuous demands of his job. The complication of the strained relations between Ted and Joanne resurfaces when Joanne returns from her “God knows where” to demand her son back from the father. On the other hand, the film “When Harry Met Sally” is depictive of a typical love film that presents two characters; Harry and Sally. It takes the two characters twelve years to fall in love. The two characters met fist in the University of Chicago in 1977 and share a diving trip to New York during the same time. After this first meeting, the two go their different directions only to meet several years later at LaGuardia AirPort. The two met consequently and realized that even though they are both in other relationships; they had developed a sense of love for each other. Harry believes in forging a good relationship with Sally, but the controversy is the issue of unavoidable sex. The two actors succeed in enhancing the plot of the movies by suggesting genuine warmth and tenderness. It is the utmost desire of any individuals getting into a relationship that the relationship they are in lasts as long as possible. However, several factors are at play in determining how long a relationship lasts. It is cognizant that relationships involve two parties who have lived in diverse environments and affected by different circumstances. Compromise is, therefore, a prerequisite in forging binding relationships. However, whenever there is an imbalance of the factors sustaining a relationship, the parties involved encounter confrontational associations that lead to a breakup. Whenever there is a love relationship, emotions come into play (Welwood 82). There are always eminent signs of a breaking relationship such as the inadequate time that one accords to the family, too much engagement in the career, inadequate communication and too much expectation over limited time. It is imperative that marriage identify the possible shortfalls and establish the appropriate measure to handle them lest the relationship falls apart. Relationships give individuals the opportunity to explore and build trust with an entirely new person. Relationships should be made to last but if this fails, calling it good riddance is always the painful path that relationships take. Quitting a relationship only offers temporary solutions to the problems. It may be considered an act of cowardice since there is no certainty in any of the partners that the forces behind the separation may not recur in future relationships (Welwood 122). . Furthermore, separation or breaking of love has adverse effects that may manifest in the whole life of an individual. Decisions on separation are not easily arrived at and should never be considered with much haste. It is always important for partners in a relationship to promptly act to correct shortfalls before they evolve to untenable levels. Men and women in relationships both experience the repercussions of separation. It is psychologically intuitive that since relationships involve emotional attachments, and one cannot voluntarily exit it without having the sense of deficiency from the departure. Relationships deteriorate with time, and it is for the partners to be proactive in fixing the flaws before they get worse. However, sometimes it is not under the control of either of the parties in a relationship to sustain it. One may find that the person he or she is in a relationship is not the right choice, or there is no compatibility between them. In such a relationship, bonds between the two parties strain every single day and is marked by misunderstanding and unresolved issues. Occasionally, personal initiatives to sustain a relationship fail to yield the desired fruits and break up become unavoidable. In such a case, the separated partners must be ready to confront the psychophysical effects that separation inevitably imposes on them. Some of the repercussions of separation include the hat for a particular gender, wasted opportunities, and psychological effects (Welwood 82). Kramer vs. Kramer movie kicks off with the scene where Joanna Kramer departs from her family with the feeling that her relationship with Ted is soiling. She intentionally departs from the husband in anticipation that she would have her time alone to recollect and reflect succinctly about their future. However, the embattled mother of a six-year-old son, discoveries the inevitable despair she holds for the left son, Billy. Joanne is compelled by her interpersonal conflicts and the love for her son to demand her son. The undeterred mother to child love plays role in this struggle between mother and father. The love between Joanna Kramer and her husband can be well coined as uncompromising love. In the first place, Streep abandons the marriage base on personal feelings but the film does not present her sharing her discontent with the husband. Though the film remains silent on it, it is explicit from the dialog that the film epitomizes the typical breakup of a professional couple. Joanne is unfulfilled, and the husband is preoccupied with his career but neither of them is willing to share their grievances leading to a painful break up (Welwood 92). The break up does not consider the plight of Brian, who needs the presence of both parents for his psychological development. The film When Harry Met Sally “is depictive of love in desperation. Harry asserts the claim that no man and woman can be friends without sex coming into play. After several coincidental meetings at the airport and in a bookstore, the two developed love for each other but this could not materialize to a serious relationship with both Sally and Hurry are engaged. During one of their meetings in a diner, Sally is annoyed when Harry complements her attractiveness. She accuses Harry of embarrassing her. The two depart on unfriendly terms during a meeting in New York due their divergent philosophies. However, the relationship can as well be described as unrelenting love. It takes Sally and Harry twelve long years to realize the inevitability of their love. Persistence in the persuasion of love and relationship has the connotation of real love. True love is based on absolute emotional attachment and compatibility of beliefs and principles. It is in implicit that time and distance cannot deter two people from forging a successful relationship irrespective of the circumstances. For instance, the relationship between Sally and Hurry begin when they are both in relationships (Welwood 67). Even though, Sally defends her stand against the advances made by Hurry, some form of attachment begins here. In conclusion, love and relationships are inevitable human clamors that can be a source either happiness or despair. Love involves emotional attachments between partners, but the inclinations of love should be considerate of the ideal requirements of real love. Break-up is a result of poor choice or uncompromising stances between partners.
