Sociology Leading Social Change My dream after my professional path is to start my own business organization. After completing business finance degree, I intend to enroll for master in business administration in my commitment to develop the right leadership skills necessary to manage an organization. In my organization, I will strive to apply the right leadership model to bring impact social change within the organization as well as the society. Leadership Model In any business organization, the leader can influence social change through use of the right leadership model. In my organization, I will apply a three level leadership to create cohesion between the leaders, the workers and the community at large. As an individual, I will apply the right virtues and values to create teamwork among the group of employees. Through efficient communication, teamwork building and conflict management, it will be possible to create a strong social relationship between the employees. Since the organization is dependent on the community, exemplary leadership will help to impart social change in the community. My goal will be to engage the community at all levels and create a strong connection with them. Through this leadership model, I will impart social cohesion inside and outside the organization. Organizational Chart The organizational chart in an organization indicates the boundaries of power. As the general manager in my organization, I assume the highest power in the organization and am responsible for providing the guidelines for effecting change in the organization. The Finance and Human resources form part of the top-level management and have power over the operational, research and development and the product-marketing managers. The rest are the employee who works below the low-level managers. In my business organization, I intend to enhance upward and downward compatibility. The entire group of employees should be involved in decision-making process to ensure that each person is satisfied with the decision and that there is no communication breakdown between the various levels of communication (Kincaid 152). My priority will be to get on board or the stakeholder on the business plan. When the employees align to the business organization strategies, it becomes easy to implement them. Brown and Hurley (2) define transformational leadership as the use of strong personal virtues and skills to influence the people and resources in an organization in such a way that there is a social change in the business environment. In other words, a leader should use their personal wisdom, skills and experiences to impart social change within the organization they serve. In the contemporary business organization, effective leadership is crucial if a business organization has to survive. The reason why I like this definition is that I believe that the right leadership should influence the employees and the community since they determine the organizational success. The leader has the role to take care of the social relations of the leaders at different levels, the employees and the community surrounding them. Since the employees form the labour resource, one of the scarce resources of the organization, managing their wellbeing will have a direct relationship with the organizational performance. On the other hand, the community forms the customers of the organizations and hence the organization depends on them for survival. In the contemporary business organization, organizational leadership will determine the profitability of the organization. My plan is to invest in the hospitality industry, specifically to begin a restaurant in the central business district. The restaurant industry is social in nature as the investor depends on the inflow of customers to gain from the business. The hospitality industry is one of the business industries that demand transformational leadership. The relationship between the leader and the employees determines the way they collaborate in achieving the business goals and objectives. On the other hand, the relationship between the employees and the customers determines the inflow of customers in the restaurant. Most customers prefer to visit organizations that offer good customer service. My organization will put customer at the heart of the business to ensure that good customer service and that all customers are satisfied. The marketing department will be involved in field marketing, which depends on their approach to potential customers and the way they communicate to them. Proper training and exemplary leadership will ensure that the marketing department uses customer-based model of business marketing for the benefit of the organization. In my organization, I will hold the position of the general manager and the leader of the entire organization. My relationship with other employees in the organization will determine the extent to which my business remains profitable. On this note, I will build a social relationship with all employees to be an example and to inspire them. For one, I will open effective communication channels in the organization to ensure that I am reachable. The impact that this has is that the employees will be free to contribute to business development, provide their own opinions on business operation and provide any new ideas. Since each person in a typical work place has his or her own experiences, efficient communication will ensure that I can benefit from these ideas. Secondly, I will get involved in the employees personal problems. My priority will be to earn employee loyalty by working along them and reacting in time to their personal challenges. This will help to strengthen my relationship with them and open up an opportunity for strong social relations. To strengthen my relationship with the community, I will involve them in the business planning by opening up channels through which they can pass their feedback to the organization. This feedback will be used to ensure that the organization satisfies the customer tastes and preferences. A strong social relationship with the employees and the community will win loyalty from both the employees and the society. My personal driver in the restaurant industry is to profit from strong social relations within and outside the organization. The profitability of the business industry depends on the employees and the customers. While together with the top-level managers we are responsible for developing the organizations goals and objectives, the operational managers and the employees play a critical role in implementing the project. The work output of the employee depends on the strength of the teamwork that exists in the organization. A good social relationship ensure that all the teams work together to perform the duties of the organization. Research shows that teamwork is responsible for an increase work output, which results to profit increase. On the other hand, the customers lay at the heart of the business; the higher the flow of customers, the higher the organizational profits. Leading in social change will ensure that the organization optimizes its output through employee and customer loyalty. On this note, I have a responsibility of instituting social change if my organization has to remain profitable in the long-term. The social and economic drivers in the hospitality industry are pushing the leaders to lead in social change within the business environment. Today, organizations are competing for the best employees in the society. On the other hand, employees are looking for positions where they can stay in long term and where they can strike a mutual deal with the employer (Kincaid 142). Therefore, business leaders are pushed to establish a long-term association with employees to ensure that they remain in the organization. For instance, employee will prefer to work in organizations where they can develop at the same rate that the organization develops. Therefore, my organization will ensure that employees remain loyal by sharing with them the organizational profits. On the other hand, the restaurant industry has become very competitive due to existence of many investors. On this note, the customers have a higher bargaining power and have the liberty to choose the restaurant that satisfies their tastes. Any organization that does not pay attention to customer service is likely to lose economically. To survive in this market, my organization will win customer loyalty by establishing a strong social relationship with the customers to ensure that the organization understands and satisfies the customer tastes. In my business enterprise, I will apply conversational leadership to leading in development of social change. Brown and Hurley (10) define conversational change as the skills of engaging integrative thinking to bring a change in the business environment. In this leadership style, the leader brings the minds of the people to a common reasoning in an effort to provide strategies and to solve organizational problems. The reason why I prefer this approach is that it brings the community, the employees and the leader together in making decisions that suit every person. As a student of sociology, I have developed strong leadership qualities that will help me to bring the various groups in my team together. First, I have developed good communication skills that are crucial in conversational leadership. In addition, I have learnt how resolve personal conflict and how to restore peace between warring groups. These personalities will help me to develop create the necessary social change for business development. Works Cited Brown, Juanita and Hurley, Thomas.
