Learning through History School Affiliation: Learning through History Even though many people today enjoy various forms of freedom, the truth is that someone fought to all that. Whereas today’s society tends to take everything for granted and abuse even the most costly commodity, the fact is that had someone accepted the norm there would be no free speech. With unshaken stance, individuals withstood the intimidating and limiting voices in order to bring about the freedom that enjoyed today. This brief essay does focus on the factors that contribute to the success of social movements.

Firstly, in order to succeed in a particular lobby, social movements start whenever there is need irrespective of availability of resources or lack of the same thereof. Loeb (2010) stated that in order to achieve success in any kind of lobby, one has to start wherever they are standing. In fact, many of the social movements that ha e brought about change started very small. For instance, when women in United Stated started fighting for voting rights, their male counterparts had supreme powers.

It was hard to accept the idea but by starting with a small number, women in US are well respected and equal to their male colleagues.Persistence is the key to realizing success in fighting for particular change in the society since a voice needs to be heard regularly to be listened to (Scalet & Arthur 2014). It would inappropriate to assume that social movements are heard on the very first time they raise complaints. In fact, some take decades before their grievances are heard, others do not even get the chance because of tyrant rule.

For the ones that have made it, much persistence is displayed where these groups continually demand their rights notwithstanding the oppression suffered.Refusal to compromise has seen many groups overcome the temptation to abandon their cause. While social movements are normally short of funding especially when starting, one factor that has enabled them to stand is the extreme stand. In order for this to happen, a group must have the conviction of what they are pursuing to be right. In other words, the refusal to compromise is brought by clearly understanding and tenaciously clinging to what is believed to be right.
