My Best Friend - Personal Statement Example

My best friend My best friend is a guy d Kevin. I like him for the way he treats his friends with respect and gives them the space that they deserve. He is also considerate and loving towards all of us. We go back a long way right from preparatory school to high school. We kept in touch even after we moved to different colleges. It can be said that we are bum chums and we grew up together. As they say, the “Wonder Years” were spent with him and other friends. Kevin likes to read a lot. I was drawn to reading because of him. We used to spend all our weekends in reading all sorts of novels and comic books. We have built up a huge collection of comics and books that we share with each other and others. Apart from this, we also like to go biking and trekking around the place we live. There are several wooded places and areas where one can trek and go around. We explored all these places together. Needless to say, our friendships with girls also progressed with Kevin and me making the effort to reach out to the girls in our school. Once I became friends with Kevin, we realized that we had several interests in common. As I mentioned above, reading and trekking were a few of them. Apart from that, we also had an interest in electronic gadgets and we used to spend a lot of time in our homes trying to fix something or the other. We also bought several of the equipment and tried our hand at rigging up small gadgets. What did I do last week? Last week was a particularly hectic week for me. I had to go visiting my relatives’ houses and also there were lots of catching up to do with the housework and other little things. First, I had to visit my Aunt Martha as she was not well and recuperating from an attack of pneumonia. I spent some time with her. She was as cheerful as she always was despite having had to undergo treatment for pneumonia. Apart from visiting Aunt Martha, I had to go to my cousin’s place for dinner along with the rest of my family. This was a family occasion that demanded my presence and hence I had to go there. We had a good meal and shared our family stories and anecdotes. All in all, it was an enjoyable moment for al of us. These family get-togethers provide an opportunity to catch up with what the rest of the family is doing and also to let them know what I have been doing. I also caught up with my homework. This required lots of reading to do and I could do that effectively with help from some of my classmates. The homework was to do with Economics and hence I had to read the current happenings in the financial world to do the assignment. Thus, I kept myself informed of the credit crisis and what it means for all of us. I received a word of praise from the tutor for my assignment and I felt happy about it. I enjoyed my weekend by taking off from doing any work and spent the time watching Television and catching up on the favorite programs. My favorite relative in my family “Brother” I love my brother more than anyone else in my family. Not to say that I don’t love my parents or others. Just that my Brother is the person whom I love very much. Of course, my parents have always been there for us and it is because of them that I love my Brother more. They have taught us to share and care and thus I and my brother have a bond that is beyond words. He is elder to me and has always helped me get everything that I wanted. He has put my interests before me and has ensured that my wishes are fulfilled to the best of his abilities. He loves to take me for rides in the car and I like these long rides very much. He plays some of his favorite music in the car when we go for these rides and I enjoy listening to them very much. After he left to study away from home, I missed him very much. Of course, because of e-mail and chat, we keep in touch everyday and I fill him in with what all had happened and what I did. I enjoy the conversations with him very much and he makes it a point to call me whenever he can. I miss him a lot and whenever he comes home for a vacation, which is the best time that I have with him. We go around a lot and he fills me in with whatever he has done during the time he was away. He is my role model in life and I would like to be like him. My favorite Holiday My favorite holiday was the one where my entire family went on a vacation to Paris. This was a memorable way of spending one’s vacation and we not only toured Europe by train but also met with many interesting people on the way. Traveling in Europe by train is an enjoyable experience and one that cannot be described in words. The countryside is so beautiful that no wonder they call it “God’s own country”. We visited Paris, Amsterdam and a few other places as part of our vacation. In Paris, we made it a point to visit all the places of importance, be it the Eiffel tower or the Louvre. I went up the Eiffel tower and the view from the top was breathtaking, to say the least. We went from one place to another in the boat service that they provide and this was an unforgettable experience as well. Visiting the Louvre was good as it attracted lots of attention because of Dan Brown’s novels. Though I did not find anything there, unlike the protagonist in the novel, there was much to see and explore there. After the Louvre, we went around the Champs Elysee and took lots of pictures of me and my family there. We used the Metro and the local trains extensively. Apart from Paris, visiting Amsterdam was another experience that I am not going to forget in a hurry. The Café’s on the sidewalks and the exotic continental cuisine is something that has to be experienced first hand. I would say that this was my best holiday so far. Place in the World that I would like to visit Based on what I had read about, the place I would like to visit would be South East Asia. Particularly, the countries of Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. These are the countries that I had always wanted to visit and it would be my dream holiday destination. The reason for visiting these places is that I have read so much about the culture and history of these places and I would like to go and see for myself in person. I have seen pictures of the idyllic beaches of Thailand and my brother had actually visited some of these places as part of a study tour. He came back with memorable memories of these places and the kind of delight one gets when visiting these places. I heard from him about the exotic cuisines and the culture of the places where he had gone visiting. I would like to go and see the world famous Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and see for myself the tallest building in the world. I want to shop in the shopper’s paradise that is Singapore. This city state is a marvel of sorts going by the accounts of the people who have visited there. And from what I read, this city is a combination of Asian and Western influences that make it unique among the cities of the world. Thus, these are the places that I would like to visit based on what I have read and found out from books and travel guides. I hope that I get a chance to see these places soon. My favorite season in the US Spring is my favorite season in the US. I like the way in which winter gives way to spring and it is a delight to see the greenery back on the trees and the gardens. Poets have sung paeans to the attractions of spring and their rapturous odes have always fascinated me. I like spring in Denver the most. This is one place that I always go to for my vacations. The city with all its automotive companies and the breathtaking landscape offers delights for anyone passing through. I like country music and the song “Country roads” resonates in my mind whenever I go to Denver. Spring in Denver is a sight to behold and one that would leave us asking for more. The music festival that is hosted annually there along with the food festival are much touted attractions. Many of the cultures celebrate spring with festivals for the purpose. I have read about many of these festivals when I was a kid. I want to travel to as many destinations as possible during springtime to soak in the local flavors and enjoy the ambience of spring. Given a chance, I would definitely like to visit cities that have specially lined programs in spring. The art festivals and the music concerts are things that one should attend and participate to get a feel of spring. This is my ode to spring and being a Spring chicken myself, I want to see as many summers as possible as well.
