If taking into account the social and financial conditions of everyday life around the world, this assumption could be regarded as partially justified. However, specific measures should be taken for the limitation of the phenomenon and the decrease of the percentage of crimes committed by women around the world.

The circumstances under which women proceed to criminal actions have been extensively studied in the literature. Towards this direction, the study of Radosh (2002) revealed that ‘the common life experience of prior physical or sexual abuse is among the most consistent recurring themes among incarcerated women; for these women, crime is a symptom of other painful life experiences while nonpunitive response offers more hope for a future without crime, and this approach is suggested as the most appropriate means of responding to womens crime’ (Radosh, 2002, 300). In other words, the criminal behaviour of women can be often explained using their experiences within a particular environment (family, friends and so on). However, through the years the development of other reasons that can lead women to commit crimes cannot be excluded. In fact, criminal behaviour can be based on a series of events/ reasons.

In a study made in 1976, Simon presents a series of statistics related with the criminal trends among women regarding specific criminal offences. In order to formulate a valid assumption regarding the criminal behaviour of women, the above researcher proceeds to a series of tests related with different crimes and the potential response to them by women of all ages. It should be noticed that significant differentiations in the criminal behaviour of women has been found to exist. On the other hand, there are specific criminal actions that are not sufficiently examined at least regarding the participation of women. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Women - are better listeners than men

...I think women are better listeners than men. Pros Women are usually more sensitive, hence may indeed be more attentive; 2) in the sphere of management, what is called the feminine style of management usually presupposes ability to be a good listener, which may compel women to obey this expectation. Cons: 3) The feminine style of management and, more generally, qualities traditionally associated with women are quite often adopted by men both intentionally and unintentionally; 4) any generalization risks to ignore exceptions, and in the case of the ability to listen the real number of equally attentive men is too great; 5) this statement seems to be mostly prescriptive instead of being descriptive, which bespeaks stereotypic thinking rather...

Criminology: Why do females appear to commit less crime than men

... theories and perspectives may be fully applicable to female crimes as well. That explains why, recently, there has been a great increase in the number of female writers that have researched the field to present the female perspective of criminology (Chesney-Lind & Pasko, pp. 285-289, 2004). Furthermore, statistical data may prove that women commit less crime than men commit, but is mainly not due to their inbuilt biological or social characteristics but mainly because of the fact that women do not get similar opportunities in the society and the environment. With more female liberation in the western societies, more female offences will come on the scene. In conclusion, the paper has analyzed and examined some of the significant aspects...

Why do women commit fewer crimes than men

...WHY DO WOMEN COMMIT FEWER CRIMES THAN MEN? Introduction Gender and crime has been an interesting topic for many scholars as they try to understand why men are more likely to commit crime than women (Lauritsen, Karen and James, 2009, p. 361). These scholars have come up with many explanations ranging from the socio-cultural, biological, economic and political perspectives. Psychologists have not reached a common agreement on what exactly causes human violence. Some have argued that violent behaviors are learnt, while others say they are inherited and a portion of the psychologists associate the behaviors to mental illness. Unfortunately all these arguments do not clearly explain why there more occurrences of crime among men than women...

Feminist theories Why you think women commit crime

...Why Women Commit Crime Why Women Commit Crime Feminist criminology was introduced in the 1960s and 1970s. Since then, there have been various related theories such as liberal, radical, socialist, and Marxist theories, which seek to explain why women are less likely to commit crimes as compared to their male counterparts. Most of the mainstream feminists allege that if females were treated and socialized in the same manner as males and were to conduct similar roles, their rates of criminal offences would be the same. In that case, it is imperative to understand the reason why women commit crimes in the society (Burgess-Proctor, 2006). According to Einstadter (2006), the rise in the rate of female crimes in the early 1960s and 1970s was due...

Are Women Culturally Different than Men

... Designation Lesson Assignment 2 Are Women Culturally Different than Men? In the contemporary society, it is evident that women and men are culturally distinct. One of the major contributing factors to cultural differences between men and women, in the same society, is the significant role played by the role-theory in ensuring that men and women learned their roles through what society prescribed to them instead of allowing individuals in either gender to describe their own roles by defining their own path (Epstein 828). Hence, the differences are a result of what the society prescribes on either gender with the society identifying various roles according to femininity or masculinity, which consequently contributes to gendered differences...

Why Women Live Longer than Men

... in 20th century. The life expectancy gap between various races and people has narrowed significantly, with the gender gap becoming wider. This affects sex ratio, and social and demographic factors like marriage and valuation of pension plans (Reijo & Chen 2013, p. 118). Men are believed to die younger due to stressful lives than women. If this was true, the gap could be decreasing significantly as more women assume jobs that were previously believed to be for men. Also, women get stressed as they work outside home on top of the stresses at home. However, despite women living longer than men, they are less healthy than men at old age. Biologically, women are considered to be more fit than males due to the hormonal and genetic differences...

Why do men commit more crimes than women

... Why Men Commit More Crimes Than Women Do Symbolic internationalism theory focusses on persons and groups relationships with human action rather than large-scale social structures. It provides that human actions and interactions are logical so long as there is an interchange of communication and symbols. The theory clearly defines the reason men take part in more criminal activities than women do. To begin with, men are more aggressive and less daring than women are, and this gives them an upper hand when criminal activities are considered. Secondly, most men wish to accomplish their masculinity to express to others and themselves by committing a crime. Social class, age, and sexual orientation and their desire to show...
