Chronic Illness as Biographical Disruption - Essay Example

This disruption serves as a disability to the suffering and lowers their resources. After the disruption has occurred its must for an individual to notice it but the irony with chronic disease is that the symptoms are insidious. Similarly among the subjects the symptoms went unnoticed at first. The subjects felt it was a nuisance to report such vivid symptoms to their doctors but lastly their growing disability led them to their doctors.

The progressive nature of chronic disease causes uncertainty. The subjects of the study felt that there was an imbalance between the diseases being an external entity to their power to invade the patient’s daily life. During the study, the subjects asked questions about if the disease had familial transmission. The writer then describes that this disruption gambles with your resources, which are the social circle and friends. Due to this illness, the patients start to lose their friends to petty issues such as fatigue and embarrassment.

Chronic illnesses are biological and social disruptors because they progressively start breaking the patients internally and externally. Finally, the patients become handicapped and live a restricted life which is far from the sight of others (Bury, 1982).
