Sociology’s issue is varied, ranging from religion to crime, from the state to the family, from the divisions of social class to race to mutual beliefs of a common culture, and from radical change to social stability in the entire societies. It is in merging the study of these varied issues of study that is sociology’s purpose of explaining how human consciousness and action both shape and are being shaped by surrounding social and cultural structures. In light of this, sociology makes us appreciate history and allows us to have a unique mode of understanding the world from the perspective of American subgroups, including Hispanics Americans, Asian Americans and Caucasian American within the American population.
In addition, sociology lets us appreciate obstacles and struggles faced by these subgroups mentioned in functioning within a dominant American population paradigm. In this paper, a reflection of three presenters will be examined in a social service provider perspective concerning the concerns of these subgroups mentioned above. Hispanic Americans have had serious problems living as illegal immigrants in the United States. They have experienced sociology issues from the division of social class, race to mutual beliefs of a common culture.
The presenter talking about Hispanic Americans focused on a Hispanic individual who went to America for employment. Let us briefly look at the presentation. This individual was smuggled into the United States where he worked for a rich family doing house chores and eventually, after getting his green card he got a job. In the end, one of the employee’s cars got keyed and he got blamed because he was the one in the firm with “color”. The sociology issues identified in this presentation fall into social class and race.
