Assuming that the suicide of his father was as a result of emotional trouble, Leon is likely to slip into it if his emotional state deteriorates. Studies in genetics show a link in depression. The outcome of people with similar genetic composition could be the same. The fate of Leon could be the same if he does not regain emotional stability. This necessitates intervention based on the indicators. The available indicators show that Leon can have a suicidal ideation. They also display the threat of Leon falling into severe depression especially because he retains his emotional pain and does not want to express it.
For this reason, a therapeutical approach is necessary to restore his emotional stability. Regaining his emotional stability thus relieving him of depression is the evident goal of the therapy. Additionally, it is possible that Leon wants the same results from therapy- to become emotionally stable in the face of his disappointments. Consequently, he can face life bravely and pursue other options in life. In this context, the most appropriate therapeutic approach is the cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).
It is a blend of behavioral and cognitive therapies. This kind of therapy focuses on the thoughts of the affected individuals about the events that transpire in their lives (Beck & Beck, 2011). There is a direct link between human thoughts, attitudes and beliefs (the cognitive aspect) and how they impact behavior and emotional problem-solving. This therapy concentrates on changing the negative thoughts that affects behavior and cause one to slip into depression. As a result, the therapy changes how one feels.
