For instance, the body weight usually bars one from participating in a number of activities hence affecting their self-esteem. At the same time, body weight comes with a tag by the society with people having a low opinion of obese people, hence locking them out on a number of activities. The effect of one’s body weight on self-esteem has been one of the major contributors to the increased number of unhealthy eating behaviors among the affected people. Mostly those people involved are diagnosed with eating disorder, bulimia nervosa.
Furthermore, physical activity and ability to perform activities in a talented way helps improve one’s self esteem. Some of the activities may include playing soccer, swimming and dancing among others. By being unique in that way, one receives praises that are important for building their self-esteem. At the same time they view themselves differently and worth of the unique abilities that they possess. Jean Piget confirms that children’s self-esteem is developed from the age of 6 to eleven. This is the same time that children are introduced to sports.
Self-esteem being a consequence of one’s self perception and perception of how others perceive him or her, then it is greatly affected by grooming which is judged by a number of people. For instance, clothing and grooming has effects on how one acts or behave due to the fact, their dress code, elicits responses from people in different way. Praises and appreciation from people, is fundamental in increasing ones self-confidence and participation at their workplaces.
