The background of an individual is very important in their construction of reality. On the other hand, the emerging advancements especially in technology influence an individual’s perceptions. This means that there is interplay between culture, background, personal beliefs and experiences, and technology in determining the construction of reality. In a social setting, sharing of meaning is a key aspect of social interactions. It has noted by scholars that interactions between individuals are enhanced through sharing of meanings.

This means that individualism is shunned and people embraced a common platform in which they exhibit the same line of thought. It is also apparent that based on the social interactions, all objects do carry a specific meaning (Spillman 547). Therefore, for people to carry the same meaning for the object there must be some interactionism. The meaning depicts the interactions that take place between people. However, individualism comes in when a person plans to have a specific meaning for a given object.

For example, one person may use a machete as a tool to do some work while another can use it as a weapon. The plan that an individual has for a certain object determines their meaning (Berger and Luckmann 60). Despite this proposition, people have adopted common meanings for objects as defined by their cultures and influenced by technologies. Several agents of socialization are available in various regions across the world. Socialization begins immediately a child starts identifying their immediate environment, the parents, siblings, and neighbors.

This goes on to school, peers, public, and the media. Schools offer opportunity for individuals to interact at class level as well as a personal level. The interactions between individuals of all age groups ranging from the young to the oldest create a scenario where socialization is universalized.
