Topic: Celebrity Stalker Celebrity Stalkers Being a celebrity has both its pro and cons. Some celebrities enjoy famebut suffer the effects of being in the limelight. This is as a result of celebrity stalking which threaten the lives of many celebrities. Many celebrity stalkers are obsessed and extremely dangerous stalkers. In the early years stalking was not taken seriously as the stalkers generally did no harm to their targets. The stalking was merely as a result of celebrity crush. This aspect is different in the current celebrity world.

Celebrity stalkers have devised new and dangerous tactics of stalking. Research has uncovered that celebrity stalkers might not be dangerous but change in due course as the sense of obsession grows. For instance, John Hinckley was obsessed with the actress Jodie Foster (Buzz Feed, 2013). An obsession that made him stalk her on several occasions and when he saw his attempts were futile, he attempted to kill President Ronald Reagan in 1981, thinking that this act would impress Jodie Foster. In another instance, John Lennon ended up being murdered by his celebrity stalker David Chapman (Buzz Feed).

The celebrity stalkers usually create their own reality where they see themselves in contact with these celebrities, and when they are rejected they tend to turn violent leading thus pose a threat to the celebrities who they stalk. For instance, “Steven Swanson, obsessed with model Miranda Kerr, made plans to travel across the U.S to kill Kerr claiming that she was his wife”. Dawnette Knight, obsessed with actor Michael Douglas sent threats to his wife Catherine Zeta Jones, threatening to “slice her up like meat on a bone” (Buzz Feed, 2013).

Some of these stalkers would take extreme extents such as trespassing the celebrities’ homes as well as work premises. For instance, “Robert Melanson, a stalker obsessed with Rihanna was found on her rooftop”. In the same case, Dante Michael Soiu who was a stalker to actress Gwyneth Paltrow was convicted of trespassing to her parent’s home. Celebrity stalking may be as a result of cerebral issues such as mental disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. “Zack Sinclair was convicted of stalking actor Mel Gibson claiming that God had instructed him to pray with the actor” (Buzz Feed, 2013).

American singer Sheryl Crow’s stalker Ambrose Kappos was found sneaking backstage and calling her his “spiritual twin.” Thomas Brodnicki, singer Selena Gomez’s stalker alleged that he had conversations with God regarding Selena and her place here on earth. It is not clear whether all celebrity stalkers should be considered dangerous as some of them may only be interested with the celebrity’s profession or the way they handle themselves behind the camera. On the other hand, these obsessions may lead to a character transformation thus making a humble and harmless person develop violent characteristics.
