Current Events The world of sport has a lot of events going on. From the current events in sport that I have selected, there are various themes and aspects in those stories that might be explained or understood when the sociological perspective is employed. To begin with, there are three major terms in sociology that the articles selected relate to. These include law and orderliness, passion or love, and inherent skills and competence. These terms can be traced in the different articles selected.

The term of law and orderliness is exhibited in the article about Barcelona, whose transfer ban by FIFA was lifted by FIFA. Barcelona had gone against the rules that the authoritative body, FIFA has set concerning transfers of underage international players. Although FIFA had initially imposed transfer ban on the team for one year, this was lifted after appeals by the team. This therefore, shows the role of law at different levels in society. Without rules, regulations, and authority, there would be disorderliness.

The second term passion is exhibited in the article about 203,330 tickets sold in the first five hours in Brazil. This proves that people have a passion and great love for soccer; as such a big number of tickets for the coming world cup were sold within an hour only. Finally, the term of inherent competence and skills is depicted in the article about Roger Federer, another article about Al-Rajhi, and that about Benzema. These articles focus on players in different sports that are highly talented.

Some are legends in their sport, thus such competence can be considered inherent. There are similarities in three of the five articles that I have submitted. Three of these articles have focused on competent players in different sports. For instance, in the article about Benzema, the author praises him for his skilful gaming, which granted his team, Madrid, a goal, thus an advantage over their opponents. The article depicts Benzema as a great player. Similarly, in the article about Al-Rajhi, the author considers him as a champion in the rallies.

The author quotes the driver’s past successes in different rallies, and shows optimism that he would win the rally in Qatar. Finally, the article about Federer also depicts him as a legend in Tennis. The author refers to his past and most recent victories in different competitions. Nonetheless, these three articles therefore, show that competence is necessary in sporting in order for one to win, since it is all about winning. There are no many differences in the articles selected. However, only one article does not exhibit any similarity with other articles.

The article about Barcelona’s lifted transfer ban differs from the rest considerably. In all the other articles, there is the element of competence and passion; however, this is not addressed in the Barcelona article. The article only shows the severity of acting contrary to the set rules and regulations. This is mainly because the focus of the article is on the consequences that Barcelona experienced when the team failed to adhere to rules pertaining transfer of international underage players.

Overall, all the articles selected can be scrutinized under the sociological lenses, and important knowledge generated.
