Sandell’s research reveals that only some graduates have enough skills to fit the positions available. The rest of people have a choice either to work for free or to be jobless. Companies in Canada do not think that on-job training in important; moreover, they do not want to pay money to young applicants. Internship programs allow them to have free labor; in terms of market economy it is a great benefit for them. For young people internship programs are very discouraging because they have to work for free or they will never be paid even the entry level salary.
One more important point mentioned in the research is that employees fully rely on education in cases when they want to employ only well-skilled and young employees (Sandell).
