repression of some religions, political disagreements and other activities that could be considered to be against human rights since they cause disputes in the region. Additionally, the regimes have severely constrained economic space. SCO seeks to ensure that the authoritarian regimes are monitored. SCO attempts to make use of nonviolent actions to maintain a peaceful environment and regional security. SCO involves itself in activities aimed at strengthening cooperation of the member states in curbing terrorism activities.
This paper will analyze SCO as an activist movement. The paper will discuss whether SCO has made any improvements in strengthening the security of the Central Asian region through nonviolent means and enhanced cooperation of the member states (Clarke 2010). For a long period, areas of Asia have been characterized by numerous terrorism activities. This has resulted in the notion that terrorist groups rooted in Asia organize most terrorist activities in the world. Military activities such as those conducted by the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq have often resulted in criticism since they involve many civilian killings.
It was due to increased terrorism economic inequality that countries in Asia formed SCO, which is considered an economic block. Although the main goal of SCO is for economic development in the region, it involves itself in actions aimed at creating and enhancing peace. SCO member states believe that it is possible to enhance peace through empowering individuals to oppose repression without having to use military power (Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2007) The Middle East region is faced by water shortage, which is one of the major sources of conflicts in the world.
Bullard, Johnson and Torres (n.d) argue that establishment of strategies that will enable sustainable use of resources is important. This is because most conflicts between nations result from shortage of resources such as water. As opposed to U.S. opinion that political
