Extract of sample "Social Values in American Culture"

According to Robin Williams, America has fifteen core value systems including achievement and success, progress, equality among others (Brym and Lie, 53). There are some I agree with because they are practical in day to day living and America lives up to them. These include achievement and success, humanitarianism and progress. I agree with these because it is what I see happening around and hence know that these are values deeply ingrained in the American culture in the majority of the population and not simply among a few.

I not only believe in the above-mentioned values by I live up to them. This is because they are practical to the daily functioning of the country and are values I could adopt and live anywhere with them. Every individual wants to achieve and have some sort of success in his or her life and this leads to progress. Humanitarianism should be an ingrained value in each and every individual because people are not equal and some are needy more than others. These life philosophies help me to live up to the values.

There are some I reject not because I do not believe in them but simply because it is not what is currently happening within America. These include equality, freedom and moral orientation. These values are practical among very few people and hence I cannot believe in values that are simply almost non-existent in our society. If only these values were not simply stated but actually practical among the majority of the American population, then they would be the ones I live up to.
