It tries to explain how humans become bound to one another in terms of cultures, backgrounds, religious beliefs and economic states. The readings have a dominant theme relating to discrimination in relation to races. These antisocial actions are common in the American society, thus raising concern all over the world. From the readings, one can identify the effects of discrimination in a different area such as education and employment. Below are explanations and illustrations of the readings under discussion (Western 45).

Racism describes the act of not appreciating other people that are not of the same color as oneself. It is a belief that with inherent differences one does not qualify to fill positions, citing it as discrimination. Discrimination and racism are powerful weapons breeding hatred for other people in times of wars and conflicts and even in economic downturns (Western 45). Social classes are a set of concepts found in the political theory and social sciences. They center their topics on models of social stratification where people categorized in sets of hierarchical social groups.

This can also be referred to as inequality in the society in terms of material possessions, wealth, authority and power, and luxuries in the society. In other words, this can be referred to as a group of persons who occupy a position within an economic system of producing (DeParle 23). Labor markets- Labor is the measure of the amount of work done by individuals. Usually contrasted with other factors of production: such as capital and land. Labor markets seek to apprehend the dynamics and functioning of markets for labor.

Labor economics examines the workers, employers, and attempts to grasp the resulting wage patterns, job opportunities and incomes (DeParle 23).
