Problem solution A parent can hardly believe that tomorrow his child will be shot by his or her mate. As well it is difficult to imagine that a son has killed himself after shooting his classmate(s) and a teacher. And probably, no teacher would choose a destiny to be killed by a student. Undoubtedly, neither of these scenarios is a good perspective for any of the mentioned parties. However, it has happened in one of the American schools. One day two boys attending a public high school in a prosperous community have brought guns to school and shot several other students and a teacher before killing themselves. Their behavior was a result of the severe psychological problems developed in result of unfriendly treatment by their classmates. The tragedy occurred with David and Paul is not just a unique case that should be recognized as an accident. However, this accident could have been avoided if both boys had enough proper parental care, if there were developed effective social programs against income and racial inequalities; and government bodies have restricted the gun control legislation. The accident could have been avoided if both boys had proper parental care and awareness of their sons. Lack of proper parental care was one of the main problems that have caused the tragedy at the public high school, attended by David and Paul. Parents had to try to understand this issue and pay more attention to their children, increase their parental care and awareness. While Paul and David were adolescents’ age, they needed more attention from the closest people, who would be able to understand their problems. Even though the parents of these teenagers were not directly mentioned in the case, their indirect participation or better to say lack of parental participation in the lives of their children was a critical point. First of all, parents are the people who should listen to their children, support them and help to solve their problems. Considering this parental responsibility, David’s and Paul’s parents had to resolve the psychological problems of their sons by taking effective measures. They could speak by their own with sons, support them and give useful advice, provide them with a psychological support and optimism. If this failed to work, there was an alternative to hire a specially trained psychologist, with experience in working with adolescents. Also, David’s and Paul’s parents could take a decision to change school and thus to “relieve” boys from the unfriendly social treatment. However, neither David nor Paul had proper parental care. Lacking parental support and optimism, feeling themselves lonely and offended, students reflected their problems of mental state by extreme physical aggression. Providing a proper parental care and support would be an effective solution for the discussed problem, because parents being the closest people had a substantial influence on their children and thus they were capable to influence the thoughts and moods of their sons in positive way. With developed effective social programs against income and racial inequalities, and bullying, the boys would not face such a fierce social inequality and it would not lead to psychological disorders. School systems need to develop and implement effective social programs against racial and income inequalities at schools. Society, in which David and Paul have grown, was so unfriendly that made boys feel themselves outsiders. Negative attitude to the lower income families is a serious social problem that should be managed as soon as possible. The staff working at school should consider this challenge while developing a school curriculum. It is obvious that the public high school in which Paul and David studied had launched poor social programs, if did at least any. Considering the easily vulnerable psyches of children and adolescents, school staff could implement efficient support programs that would help both to discourage unfriendly treatment among classmates and to provide support to those who feels like outsiders. Efficiently performed social programs, aimed at encouraging social interaction between children and adolescents, are the crucial effort in bringing up mentally health and stable nation. Operating with this idea, school executives were responsible to do their best in providing effective social support programs and other substitute measures. If government bodies had made more restriction on the gun control legislation, the boys would not have been able to find guns and to shoot their classmates, teacher, and themselves. To solve this problem, government needed to address the gun control reforms and to restrict legal permission for forearms possession and storing at home. While easy access to weapons is a very broad problem, comprising both illegal and criminal structures, government is the other party involved in this fatal reality. It is government who defines the laws concerning weapon access, and the process of keeping and using them. The fact, that boys brought guns from their homes points to the serious gaps in weapon legislation and gun control. Of course, it is also the fault of parents that they failed to store guns properly from their children. However, it is the government’s responsibility to issue the laws, restricting storing guns at homes and keeping them away from children. Government agencies responsible for gun control laws should seriously restrict access to weapons. For those adults, to receive an approval for storing guns at home, the government should require proper gun safety training to ensure that gun owners understood all potential threats of keeping weapons at home. Especially this issue would be crucial for the people who have children, such as Paul’s and David’s parents. Easy access to weapon and weak gun control are the challenges threatening human lives. Tragedy that occurred at the public high school where David and Paul studied is a good evidence of this statement. While all these three solutions are crucial for further actions, one of the most reasonable solutions is related to the parental care. Parents are the closest people whom children tend to trust and take their advice into account. Very often children follow the examples of their parents considering that their fathers/mothers are the best teachers and inspirers. Operating with this argument, it becomes clear that if Paul’s and David’s parents were more attentive to the problems of their sons and the harmful consequences could have been prevented due to timely support and psychological help.
