IMMIGRATION REFORM The contemporary world has witnessed fast changes in the wake of technological advancements, which have reduced the distances andturned the globe into a great village. The swift and speedy means of traveling have made it very easy and comfortable to reach from one part of the earth to the most distance places within hours. Consequently, the advanced and developed nations of the world have opened immigration policies for the qualified and intelligent workers and professionals so that they could add their imperative share in the progress of these advanced countries.

The United Stated of America is also among the leading countries, which offer individual and family immigration to the brains of the developing countries. Immigration policy of the USA maintains both advantages and disadvantages in its fold. There was a time when there had been no restrictions regarding arriving in the USA and settling down there forever. It resulted into the formation of multicultural society, where white Anglo Saxons, red Indians, Arabs, yellow races of China, Japan and Philippines, and black Africans reside as one single nation, though multiple racial, ethnic, religious and regional groups.

Sine the USA always looks for hard work and utilization of the best of their energies, capabilities and skills, the governments has always been complying and kind in respect of offering citizenship even to the illegal individuals, provided they complete the papers within the prescribed legal way. Consequently, the individuals from every region of the globe have found their way to the USA. In United States, skin color is an obvious difference. On a cold winter day when one has clothing covering all, but ones head however, skin color may be less obvious than hair color.

(Shaefer, 2006) The workers, staying in the USA, organize gatherings and arrange demonstrations for obtaining legal status and citizenship of America. They are of the view that since they render their services for the socioeconomic uplift of the country, their services must be acknowledged and they should be given immigrant status and American nationality. One the contrary, the Native Americans are not in favor of offering the immigration to all and sundry at the time when the USA economy is undergoing serious jeopardy and the local Americans are facing unemployment at massive scale.

In addition, since some of the racial, ethnic and religious fanatics prefer their separate identity, they should not be given the legal status at the moment when there exist grave threats of terrorist attacks in the country. It is dangerous to be in a state of alienation in one’s own social set up. There must be complete acculturation from the immigrants who have been living or have decided to make new country their homeland. Offering opportunities to one ethnic group may put the talent in jeopardy.

Critics of identity politics including Andrew Sullivan and others, write Duberman (2001), claim the very reality that multiculturalists must stretch beyond their cultures and identities. Identity Politics won popularity in America in 1970s. but the scholars maintain different opinion regarding the immigration policies of the USA, and demand from the government comprehensive and effective reforms, so that the country could avoid political, social and economic instability caused by open and ruthless immigration procedure implemented by the past governments.
