Truth Is Objective - Essay Example

It is the body of true statements and propositions" Webster's dictionary defines the term objective like this: of, relating to, or being an object, phenomenon, or condition in the realm of sensible experience independent of individual thought and perceptible by all observers: having reality independent of the mind; expressing or dealing with facts or conditions as perceived without distortion by personal feelings, prejudices, or interpretations. The opposite of objective is subjective. Objective history does not change.

It cannot change. Subjective history is unique to the individual and cannot always be correct. Truth and objectivity go together like a being and its shadow, it will be there when there is the light of enlightenment and it will disappear when there is the darkness of ignorance. Truth and subjectivity together will destroy each other, they are intensely opposite to each other. .In the Allegory of the Cave, from The Republic, Plato, the most creative and influential of Socrates' disciples, sums up his views in an image of ignorant humanity, trapped in the depths of subjective truth and not even aware of this entrapment.

This is the abyss of subjective truth. The rare individual escapes the limitations of that cave and, through a long, tortuous insightful journey discovers the objective truth, a true reality, with a final, almost mystical awareness of Goodness as the origin of everything that exists. . Based on reality it is logical to conclude that truth cannot be subjective, subjective truth means that there is no truth and everybody is correct, which is incorrect. A classic example is the phenomena of the earth being spherical, the proponent and pioneers of this truth were prosecuted by the masses having subjective truth, but as the subjectivity about the truth vanished with the emergence of objective truth, it is an objective truth that these pioneers were correct.
