Human Services in a Voluntary and Professional MannerMy desire to help others is foremost in my commitment to providing human services in both a voluntary and professional manner. In order to accomplish this goal it is my determination to become more knowledgeable about both the professional and paraprofessional aspects of this field. In addition to this, I am also committed to acquiring the skills needed to deliver these services in an efficient manner. In order to provide quality services to this diverse community, including that of both public and private facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living homes, mental health facilities, family service agencies, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, and programs that reach the needy, I am committed to continuing my studies and improve my professional skills as a human services worker.
My first priority in serving others will be that of serving the individual with respect for their emotional, mental, and physical state. The dignity of each person will always be one of my main considerations as I go about this service. I will also serve the organization, institution, or private provider of health services with the same intent. In this day of controversy over the rights of the patient versus the rights of others, it is my position that the rights of the patient come first. However, relationships with the people, including human services employees, family, and friends surrounding the patient are important to the patient or client’s well.
Recognizing this, I will work as a collaborator with all the people involved in the individual’s program of care. The patient or client is always more than that treated in the physical sense. Their emotional and mental state, regardless of their physical condition, is as important in a good treatment program as are their needs in a medical sense. My experiences and my continued studies in these fields will allow me to serve them better in these realms.I recognize that the more that I learn, the more I am able to assist others.
My desires to help others and to improve the lives of Asian people have brought me to the place that I now am. These desires also motivate me to continue my education. I believe my educational background and my experiences prove my worthiness to enter into a graduate program.I received a B.A. in Sociology at Cal State, Los Angles in 2004. Presently, I am working with the Angel Adult Day health Care center in Los Angeles, under the training and supervision of Alan Baban, MSW. My work involves that of interacting with prospective program participants, including explain the program to individuals and family members; conducting tours of the facility; obtaining preliminary information at referrals and intake in order to determine an individuals eligibility for the program, and facilitation of the qualifications needed to assess and admit clients into the program.
Prior to this I was employed, from Jan. 2003 until Feb. 20004 as a social work assistant at Unicare Home Health in Los Angles. My responsibilities there included that of serving as an interpreter for Korean American patients and health care staff administration to prepare and deliver reports of patient status to the primary medical doctor and to the case manager.
