Another way employees could act as enablers to employees is if there are drugs readily available, such as at a hospital. Employers of hospital staff could make certain drugs like Valium, Marijuana, and others easily accessible. Actually, this is a common problem today, and somewhere from 10-15% of doctors are projected to be using prescription illegally (Guadagnino). Some actions can be taken to prevent employers from acting as enablers to employees using drugs. One of these actions is simply having drug tests.

These tests measure the number of illegal drugs in a person's system, and they are very effective. However, because it is such a simple job, one could use drugs before going, and it might not be as noticeable as other jobs since not much is required to work. We did have some short breaks. During breaks, we were still in the high traffic areas of the store, and they were relatively short in length. Cigarette breaks were allowed to certain kitchen staff, which could encourage the use of other drugs. However, the front staff was not allowed to go out.I've also worked housekeeping in a motel, and this job environment encouraged drug use much more than the others. We generally worked alone, without supervision. The boss would leave and we would go room to room, checking items, and cleaning the rooms all morning.

When cleaning the rooms we had access to both the rooms inside, as well as the driveway and our vehicles outside. Sometimes people would leave what appeared to be drugs inside of the rooms after they left, and we would throw them away.
