Sociological perspective refers to the methodical exploration of social life and human groups, and their interactions while in the society or societies. The different theoretical models are adopted by sociologists when analyzing social situations and phenomena. The main perspectives under the bracket model include the conflict theory, symbolic interactionism and functionalist theories. The groups seeking the solutions to the problems of society view the society as a collection of different groups, which are competing for the available resources, which are scarce.

The groups will, therefore, acknowledge that the society is characterized by a struggle for power, where the different classes are fighting against one another. According to the theory, social problems emanate from the inequality of the different classes; therefore, through addressing the problems between the different classes, the social problems are resolved. For this reason, before understanding social problems, it is necessary to understand the competition taking place, the structural inequality in the society and the need for a revolution, which brings about change.

When using symbolic interactionism theory, the group seeking to understand social problems will need to understand the symbols used by the society, when developing meaning, world views and in communication. Therefore, towards studying the problems of society effectively, the group will need to understand the shared reality developed by the members of the given society., which dictates their interactions (Leon-Guerrero 7). When using this theory, the symbols that are developed within the given society and those developed as part and parcel of the problem need to be understood (Sullivan 25).
