This paper deals in various aspects of the habits of the years gone by and the impact of the social culture, the changes it has brought in our eating habits over the years. Question (a) The answer of this question when asked from my grandmother was simpler than it could have been. She simply explained that the criteria for having food was dependent upon the type of food that was cooked in her home on that particular day, not a lot of “McDonald-type” options were available. Over the period of time, although it has changed drastically as many options are now available in the market and also because the financial condition of the family has grown in stability over the years, adding to the quantity, quality and variety of food served in the house.
She also mentioned the availability of a wider variety of cooked and raw items in the market as compared to her younger years. Food was always shared among the family, making it a festive event and also contributing in the savings for the family as small amount of food was consumed by more, as compared to while eating alone as it is a general norm for our generation. To eat in front of the TV or in our private closed door rooms, causing dinner to be characterized as just a daily ritual that has to be followed due to the human’s body demand; otherwise the lunches and dinners may have been skipped, as they waste the precious TV watching or texting time of the current generation.
Question (g) While asked about the travelling plans and the food associated to it, simplicity was again a common factor in the reply. She explained that mostly home cooked food was taken for the road trip and the food available in the place of arrival was tried and tested as a measure of entertainment rather than a necessity. The
