The journal reinstate that a universal standard of education system should be modified to suit the cultural context of a country instead of adhering to former in original form. The Journal article demonstrates the theoretical approach of various theorists in order to understand the effect of child – centered approach in Taiwanese Pre-school system. This study has used qualitative method to gather information from various teachers to assess the cultural conflict with related to child – centered approach.
The writing mentions of the Confucius theory and ethical standards in enhancing the personality of a child. The emphasis is on the role of education in developing a balanced personality in a child as he grows to an individual adult. In his journal(Lee,2008183-96)mentions that “The embodiment of Confucius theory and philosophy and ethics defines the well –educated and civilized subject /man as ‘Chuan –tze’ or ‘the gentleman’ who behaves properly and obeys rule”. . The subject of the article is profound as educating a child is a matter of grave concern.
The country selected to assess the educational quality is Taiwan and is a perfect choice for studying the approaches implemented by developing nations in line with the western educational concept. The study has successful introduced the theories of various theorist like piaget,Froebel . Montessori and vygotsky. The reading emphasize on the importance of child – centeredness as an approach to educate the children in pre- school level. Here the author asserts that ignorance and failure to acknowledge the importance of cultural context and diversity can lead to stagnation in the quality development of educational system.
The author states in the article that mere adaptation to western concept of education can lead to inferior curriculum structure. Here the author is justified in stating the unique pre- schooling educational system must be developed in Taiwan with Western concept of Child – centered approach as a basis. According to ( Morrison,2009)“ As the public increasingly views children as persons with rights, educators are implementing more child-centered approaches”. The article also reflects upon a qualitative study base on interviewing teachers to assess culture conflict of child centered approach.
In precise, the article is balanced in information about the nature of education system followed by Taiwanese. Even though the article is well structured and informative, it has given more than needed importance to DAP. It is understandable that DAP is crucial curriculum framework in education system but at times the information gets more inclined to DAP alone. Even the author failed to explain any discrepancies in Taiwanese education system due to their blind follow up
