The Keirsey.com website provided me with a personality test. The personality test that I took revealed that I have a rational personality. This particular type of personality is very rare since only about 7% to 10% of the population have a rational personality. As a rational type personality I have a natural tendency towards being interested in solving complex problems. Rational personalities will analyze systems to figure out how they work and how to make them better. This skill set could be put to good use in the marketing field.
I could analyze a company’s marketing plan to determine ways of how to improve the plan to provide greater value for the company. When a rational person is given a problem they will try finding solutions that have applications in the real world. As a marketer this ability could prove valuable if a team was performing a brainstorming session to formulate ideas. The ideas that others provide could be analyzed by a person with a rational personality to determine if the ideas have practical applications in marketing.
I also learned that rational personalities don’t care about being politically correct; they care more about finding the most efficient solutions possible. As a marketer I could that perspective to formulate advertising campaigns that target the competition of the company. I also learned that people with rational personality listen well to people who have something to teach. Being an active listener can help people in marketing because the best ideas are sometimes hidden in the minds of the co-workers or customers.
