Title (first part) (Second part) By [Name of Student] [student number] [insert what the document is] Abstract The research is about risk factors that lead to divorce in the modern society. Literature review indicates that there are various risk factors which include level of education, unemployment, economic issues, childleness, personal behaviour and use of drugs. The information literature also indicates that divorce is common even in happy marriages. Literature review indicates that the risk factors associated with divorce is influenced by other factors such as age. The concepts of mixed research methods will be utilized during the research. Both the primary as well as the secondary methods of research will be utilized. The information will be relevant to individuals as well as institutions that deal with marriage and divorce. Introduction a. Aims The research is aimed at establishing the risk factors that contributes to divorce in the modern society. The divorce rates in the modern society have been on the increase. This is a social problem that is being experienced in most parts of the world. b. Background In the modern society, the divorce rates are increasingly becoming high which has raised a lot of questions. As opposed to the past were the divorce rates were low and it only took place were the couples were unhappy; the situation is changing (Maslauskaite, Jasilioniene, Jasilionis, Stankuniene & Shkolnikov, 2015). It is common for most of the marriages to end up in divorce in less than two years. Divorce in the society is common among people of different classes in the society. As a result of the situation, it appears as if no marriage is safe from divorce. This has therefore raised a lot of concern leading to research. The paper is thus a proposal for a research regarding divorce risk factors in the modern society. c. Keywords Divorce, Risk factors, Marriage Literature review Divorce in the modern society is increasingly becoming common. This has seen people engaging in marriages several times after their divorce. The rise in the rate of divorce is as a result of various factors including some that are associated with the modern way of life. Education is one of the risk factors that are associated with divorce in the modern society (Adegoke, 2010). In the past, most of the women did pursue education to the highest level. However, this has changed and women are increasingly earning doctorate degrees. As a result of this, they are fully aware of their rights and they can fully support themselves. The chance of divorce in a marriage where the wife is more educated than the husband is therefore high (Adegoke, 2010). Due to the changing work environment, it is common for some of the people to be deployed in other countries or regions. This therefore levels them with very little time to spend with their spouses. As a result of this boredom sets in leading to the divorce. The demanding nature of work in the modern society is thus a risk factor that contributes to the divorce (Amato & Hohmann-Marriott, 2007). This problem is however limited to those who are working and especially the people holding higher positions in an organization. In the past, most of the couples lived together and therefore had adequate time to deal with the family issues. The demands in the modern world have greatly contributed to the problem. One of the risk factors that have been persisting over a period of time is the inability to bear children. This is a risk factor that is associated with most of the first marriages among the young couples (Bernardi & Martínez-Pastor, 2011). A lot of frustration usually sets in when the couples find that they cannot be able to have children. The family history of the couples is a risk factor that contributes to divorce. The individuals whose parents were divorced are more likely to experience divorce in their own marriages. This is attributed to the expectations that they have as well as attitudes with regards to marriage. Premarital pregnancy is also a risk factor that contributes to divorce in the modern society. The husband may end up not liking the child that is not his and hence contributing to the divorce. This is however a minor risk factor as society is increasingly changing its attitude with regards to the premarital pregnancy (DiFurio, Willis & Goode, 2012). The prevailing economic situation has led to an increase in unemployment. When a husband losses his job, the chance of divorce increases. This is because he may not be in a position to continue providing for his family. However, this is only limited to some of the regions. Couples in some of the regions usually postpone divorce during the harsh economic condition. The difficulties associated with economy in the modern society have greatly contributed to divorce (DiFurio, Willis & Goode, 2012). The ability to provide for the family is an influential factor in a marriage. Verbal aggression and personal behaviour is a factor that influences divorce among the couples in the modern society. This is a risk factor that has been found to contribute to divorce among couples who are happy. The couples who seem to be doing well may end up in divorce due to poor problem solving skills (Lavner & Bradbury, 2012). This is a major problem that causes communication breakdown and hence impacting negatively on the health of the marriage. Although most of the couples have disagreements among themselves, those who have children may not divorce easily. The children therefore play an important role in terms of preventing divorce among most of the couples (Maslauskaite, Jasilioniene, Jasilionis, Stankuniene & Shkolnikov, 2015). A high number of women who are not comfortable with the marriage usually end staying for the sake of their children. Violence and physical abuse is a risk factor that contributes to divorce in the modern society. This is a major problem in the urban areas as compared to the rural areas. This is a problem that is common among some of the couples. The use of physical violence is also a criminal offence and it has seen individuals being taken to court. Drug abuse is on the increase in the modern society. This is a problem that has affected the some of the individuals who are in marriage. As a result of drug abuse, the individuals may not be able to discharge their obligations and hence contributing to divorce (McDermott, Fowler & Christakis, 2013). Currently most of the churches are involved in counselling before marriage in order to reduce the divorce rates. Research question In the modern society, what is perceived as risk factors in marriage? Methodology The data collection process is useful in ensuring that the information about the topic is obtained. The data for the research will be collected through the use of primary as well as the secondary means. The primary method of data collection involves obtaining the information directly from the source (Creswell, 2012). This can be achieved through the use of interviews, questionnaires, observations and surveys. However, during the research, the interview is the most appropriate method of data collection. The data collection through the use of interviews ensures that detailed information is obtained from the respondents. This is achieved through the use of open ended questions which enable the respondent to provide information in accordance with their own knowledge and experience. The secondary method of data collection involves the use of existing sources (Creswell, 2012). This is achieved through the use of books, journals and the internet sources. However, the secondary sources of information used must be credible in order for the information to be reliable. The aspects of qualitative as well as quantitative research also need to be involved in the data collection process. This is important in ensuring that the data collected is analysed in a proper manner. During the data collection process, the sample involves the people who will be engaged in the data collection process. The respondents involved in the data collection process must have adequate information as well as experience with regards to the topic. The research will involve men and women who have undergone divorce. The main focus will be obtaining the reasons that contributed to their divorce. All the respondents have to be provided with the same interview questions in order to obtain the same reliable information. The data collection process requires a lot of accuracy in or to ensure that the information is reliable. The data collection process requires adequate time and resources in order to obtain as much information as possible (Ragin, 2014). Due to the use of quantitative research concepts, the number of respondents is an important aspect that has to be considered. Quantitative research concepts are effective in the presence of a high number of respondents. The data analysis process is useful in terms of ensuring that the required results are obtained. The data analysis is usually carried out through the use of qualitative and quantitative methods. However, in a mixed research, both the qualitative as well as the quantitative method of data collection is utilized. The analysis of data through the use of quantitative research method involves the use of calculations as well as statistical methods. High levels of accuracy are required during the data analysis process in order to ensure that the information is credible (Jensen, 2013). The information has to be accurate as it will be used to make the conclusion. The data analysis process will therefore be dependent on the figures as well as the statistical information obtained. A lot of professionalism as well as expertise are also required during the process of analysing the data. Limitations The limitations of the research are based on the diverse nature of the location of the respondents. As a result of this, data can only be collected from a few respondents in the same geographical area. This may impact negatively on the quality of information obtained as well as the conclusion. However, to counter this limitation, information from credible books and journals will be used to obtain more information regarding the topic. Information from credible sources will also provide more information from different areas which can also be used for the purposes of making comparisons and hence countering the limitation. Feasibility Resources Resources will be required during the research and it will mainly be for the purposes of collecting data and carrying out the analysis. Financial resources will be required to facilitate the data collection process. The financial resources will be required to facilitate movement as well as purchase the materials and equipment required during the data collection process. Human resources will also be required during the data analysis process. This is in the form of advice and expertise with regards to the data analysis process. Ethics The research is ethically sound as it is aimed at providing solutions to problems being experienced in the society. However, during the process of carrying out the research, the concepts of ethics have to be applied. During the data collection process high standards of ethics have to be applied (Ragin, 2014). The respondents will not be influenced in any way to provide the information. On the other hand, the information provided during the research has to be analysed in an ethical manner. When dealing with the secondary source of information, plagiarism will be avoided as it is unethical. All the authors whose articles have been used will be acknowledged through proper referencing. Proposed outcomes The proposed outcome will play an essential role in solving the research gap that exists in literature with regards to the topic. Recent information will also be provided by the research and this can be used for the purposes of addressing the challenges being faced by the society. The information is useful to the individuals as well as institutions. The individuals can use the information in order to avoid the risks involved. The use of the information will play an essential role in the society which can be used by the people who deal with marriage issues such as counselling. The statics will obtain will also be vital in highlighting the extent of the problem in the society. End-text references Adegoke, T. G. (2010).
