Advantages and Disadvantages of Cities People all over the world have been divided into two groups marked by a line of difference between rural and urban life. People living in urban areas experience an urban life while those in rural areas lead a rural life. It is crucial to note that living in city has more advantages compared to living in rural areas in the current world. City life provides a good chance of improving knowledge and career development. It is also a convenience place for most of the individuals due to accessibility of things like technology, trade centers, health care, banks, transport and other amenities. They are also high opportunities for securing a job within the city. However, they are some disadvantages of living in cities although they are insignificant. This is mainly because of high levels of crime and pollution. This essay will discuss the advantages of living in the cities as compared to the disadvantages of living in cities (Combs15). Cities are usually equipped with many modern facilities. The modern amenities such as satellite communication equipments, television, and internet among others are commonly accessible in the city. Increasing availability of modern facilities alongside educational facilities as well as career opportunities, has led to a more economically, luxurious, and stable life for many people in cities. There are high chances of developing and improving ones career in the urban areas due to high availability of learning institutions and accessible information technology. There is high probability of getting a good learning institution in the city. Facilities and requirements of one to succeed and move higher in the education ladder can be found and accessed in urban areas as compared to rural areas (Michael 35). In the city, there are high chances of securing a job due to high number of industries, businesses and service providers who are potential employment providers. Many international companies and corporations are found in big cities making it easier to find a well paying job in the cities. In cities, things like furniture, clothes, health care among others are easily found in the urban areas and at a good cost compared to rural areas. This is primarily due to high number of manufacturers who are found within the cities. Living in a city also provides banks, hospitals, and trade centers among others for people. Living in the city assists in improving ones knowledge. This is through interaction and communicating with many people with diversified cultures. This enables one learn a lot from different cultures. Cities provide the best environment for entrepreneurship and business establishment (William 65). A person with plans to start a business will be able to thrive well in cities as compared to rural areas. The city environment is a good atmosphere for a successful venture into business. However, they are advantages of old city than modern cities. This is due to high richness of culture life being the engine of these old lives. This makes them become more attractive compared to the modern cities. The other advantage of older cities is their attractive architecture. They have old museums with old artifacts as compared to the modern rising cities. Old cities are well planned as compared to modern cities. Modern cities are very much congested with skyscrapers as comparing to old cities that take into consideration the importance of perfect design and architecture. However, modern cities seem to attract a lot of people due to the increasing number of skyscrapers buildings that are coming up. However, this has not deterred people from migrating in large number to the urban areas. In the ancient cities, there was less migration as compared to current cities. The rise of new technologies and need for more education facilities has made people move to urban areas. The need for a high luxurious life has also made many people to migrate to the urban areas (Adrian 45). However, they are still some disadvantages of living in urban areas although they are comparatively fewer comparing to advantages. Almost all cities around the world are crowded. They densely populated when compared to rural areas. This makes competition of available services and facilities become extremely high. This in some instances makes such services unavailable to all the people or even become of poor quality. The increased overcrowding leads to high levels of crime in cities. This is because criminals can be able to operate in areas where they are many people without being traced easily. The categories of crimes in the urban areas include kidnapping, snatch theft, and robbery. This threatens people living within the city. This makes the city become unsafe. Another disadvantage of living in the city is high levels of pollution. High number of cars and manufacturing industries makes the environment have high levels of pollutants within the urban areas (William 67). This has led to diminish of fresh air to an extent of fogs in some instances. Despite many advantages associated with the urban life, most people live in isolation and they do not know well who their neighbors are. This has resulted to a self-sufficiency life or self-centered nature of society in urban areas. In conclusion, it is crucial to note that migration to cities has increased significantly as compared to older times. This is due to various major advantages associated with living in urban areas as compared to its disadvantages. Increased technology access has increased to a greater extent making many people find the need to migrate to urban areas where it is easily accessible. They are other major factors that make it clear that living in urban areas is more is more advantage as illustrated within the essay. Living in the urban areas is crucial for the current generation who are in dire need of technology and other amenities. The increased need for more advanced learning facilities including information technology has made urban areas become advantageous. They are a lot of social benefits of living in cities due to high number of entertainment facilities and places. These among others are the advantages of cities and they definitely outweigh the few disadvantages listed. Those disadvantages have less weight as compared to the advantages.
