Thesis statement: An attempt to unearth the scope of current democratic system in America, by evaluating its advantages and disadvantages. The current democratic system in America can be evaluated on the grounds of its advantages and disadvantages. As America possesses multiracial, multilingual and multicultural society, democracy is most important factor to inculcate innovation to the current system. Alan Wolfe (2007) makes clear that the political history and cultural background of America supports democratic mode of government.
The President, Civil Liberties, the Congress, the Constitution, the Courts and bureaucracy are the basic components of current democratic system in America. As the head of state, the President enjoys immense power but with a number of duties and responsibilities towards the federal government. The executive, administrative and judiciary of the government come under the control of American President. Mettenheim (1997), states that the Presidential form of government in America is effective because it exerts much influence upon executive.
Without President’s consent, the bills that are passed by the congress will not become law. This legislative power vested upon the President to Veto the decisions of Congress is an important advantage for the President in current democratic system in America. In addition, the executive power upon the Armed Forces helps the President to take apt decisions during internal and external insurgencies. The President enjoys administrative powers because he/she is the head of executive branches within the federal set up.
