Chapter 9 of Criminological Theory: Context and Consequences gives a reader the real-world relevance of theory by showing how concepts on crime play a vital role in shaping crime control policies. This chapter also compels students to apply theories to the modern setting on crime. This essay seeks to give a review of chapter 9 of the book criminology theory: context and consequences.

Richard, Lilly, and Cullen develop the readers’ knowledge into many theories that aid in constructing concepts in criminology. Interestingly, this is not just another exposition in criminology and its consequences in chapter 9, but also relatively a wider treatment that an individual can find in the broader framework of traditional sociology (Lilly et al. 2011).  In this chapter, the authors maintain a clear streak of exploring the gist of criminology. They also develop insights into some of the consequences that arise when these criminology theories are developed. For instance, they strain the function “social context" aids in conceiving about criminality and crime (Lilly et al. 2011).

The authors are fast to mention in this chapter that as theories of crime change, so does criminal justice policies (Lilly et al. 2011). Even though this may appear to be ordinary observation, it has reflective implications. A watchful reader will regularly observe how such an account fits into modern procedures deliberated to address the criminology issue. In addition, the author concludes with conservative criminology.

In summary, chapter 9 is a comprehensive guide to understanding criminology from a different sociological perspective. In this chapter, as well, the authors maintain a strong thesis on explaining criminology theories from a social context viewpoint.
