Decision-Making Model Introduction The case study is based on 6 years of age child having fever and the explanation of the decision of the parents of the child for the treatment. It has been identified that the parents of child are divorced and the mother is not a biological parent, but the father is a biological parent. Based on the difference in religion, the decisions of the parents are recognized to be different from each other related to the treatment of the child because the mother is a Christian Scientist and insisted that the child should be provided with treatment and on the other hand, the father insisted that treatment should be offered along with independent consultation. This paper intends to explain about the ethical dilemma of the case along with the suitable decision-making model to resolve the dilemma in relation to treatment of the child. Ethical Dilemma Ethical dilemma or problem of this case can be to make the decision for the recovery of the child and for improving the quality of life of the child suffering from fever. This problem has been raised due to the wrong decision of the parent, because the parents of the child are divorced. Parents play the most vital role in the recovery of disease of their children and therefore, if parents take wrong decisions regarding the treatment, then it can be a major dilemma for the well-being of the health of the children. From the provided case study, it can also be evaluated that wrong decision has been taken due to religion and cultural problem (Vaz & Srinivas, 2014; Moulton & King, n.d.). Decision-Making Model Decision should be taken based on the importance of the problem or treatment, because during the time of treatment, decisions of the family members or parents play a vital role for the well-being of the health of their patients. During the time of treatment, the responsibilities of the doctors are to diagnosis the problem and then provide the treatment solution to the parents or family members through which the disease of patients can be reduced. After that, it is the responsibility of the parents to make the decision regarding further treatment for the well-being of the life of the patients. In this regard, based on the provided case, it can be evaluated that medical decision-making model can be the suitable model for the recovery of the health of the child. With the help of medical decision-making model, it is possible to make effective decisions, as family members and physicians are together offered with the opportunity for quick recovery of the patients. Medical decision-making model involves several stages such as exchange of information and the treatment options. In this respect, the model assists in offering effective treatment options in accordance with which treatment can be offered with effective recovery of the child (Wilson, Strub, Buist, Knowles, Lavor, Lapidus & Vollmer, 2015; Moulton & King, n.d.). How Dilemma can be Resolved with the help of Medical Decision-Making Model The dilemma in the case study can be resolved with the help of above mentioned decision making model i.e. medical decision-making model. With the help of this decision making model, it is possible to obtain the information about the treatment and improvement of the health quality of the patients. Through the medical decision making it is also possible to about the medical diagnosis. The principle of medical decision-making is to improve the health of patients. With the help of this decision medical patent not only adopt the treatment of physician but also adopt the values of physician along with the own preferences for the improvement of the quality of life (Moulton & King, n.d.). Doctors and parents both play an important role in the quick recovery of life of patients, because without support of parents or family members, the patients cannot recover quickly or it can have a negative impact on the health of the patients. In this regard, it can be mentioned that treatment decision making model helps to provide information about the procedure based on which the disease of the child can be reduced and the interventions to be offered for quick recovery of the child from fever (Cribb, 2011). From the provided case study, it can be observed that the mother of the child is a Christian Scientist and therefore, she suggest that no medical treatment to be offered due to religious causes. On the other hand, the father of the child suggests that treatment is required and therefore, he must be consulted with an independent consultation from a physician. Therefore, to make the right decision with the help of both mother and father for the treatment of their child, medical decision-making model is an appropriate decision making model. It helps them to understand the importance of the treatment of their child along with quick recovery. With the help of medical decision-making model, the parents are able to discuss with the physician for better treatment of their child and make the right decision for recovery of health and enhance the quality of the life of the child (Queensland Health, 2011; Moulton & King, n.d.). Dialog Family: Hello! Our child is having serious fever and we are unable to take the right decision regarding the treatment of the child. Can you suggest a suitable decision-making model through which we can able to make the right decision together for the quick recovery of our child from fever? Me: K. No Problem. According to my viewpoint both you have to think about the better treatment of your child when your child is very much serious rather than considering religious issue. I know you are not biological mother of that child and you are Christian Scientist, but your decision should be based on the well-being of health of your child and not on the religious issue. Both of your positive decision would help the physician to provide better treatment for the quick recovery of your child. You both should consult with another physician, who can give you better advice for better treatment of your child, because proper support and care of the child is the most vital element for the quick recovery of the child. Family: Thank you for providing us good suggestion and helping us to think about our child rather than other aspects. We will remind your words and consult with another physician for the better treatment and quick recovery of our child. Conclusion From the above discussion, it can be comprehended that along with doctors, parents as well as family members are also needed to play a vital role for the recovery of the child. Care and support of the family members are the prime factors for the well-being of the health of the child. Based on the medical decision-making model, the parents are required to make decision about the treatment of the child. In addition, it can be concluded that both father and mother should think about their child’s health and perform the required functions, which are essential for effective interventions as well as treatment for the recovery of child.
