The point of this policy was seen in the fact that it should provide an opportunity for receiving huge sums of money to be used for personal purposes as well as transferred to offshore zones. The purpose of the leaders of the company was to deceive the largest possible number of people and earn a lot of money on it. To this end, they used a variety of methods to ensure the companys loyalty among customers and a steady flow of investment.
Kenneth Lay was the founder of the company. His attitude to the company was based on the desire to earn more money with not only legal but above all illegal ways to make a profit. Lay was the first who decided that it makes sense to use risky ways to profit. He began to engage the traders who were betting on the oil markets. Even after auditors revealed their scheme of work, Lay urged them to "keep making us millions" (“Enron…”). Nevertheless, these machinations were discovered when it became known that traders gambled away all Enrons reserves. As a result, Lay denied any involvement in these machinations pointing to the fact that he did not have the slightest idea of the existence of this problem in the company.
Jeffrey Skilling was hired by Kenneth Lay. He played no less and perhaps an even greater role in the collapse of the company. First, he created an untruthful image of the company as the most successful American company aimed at global leadership among all companies. To this end, Skilling started deceiving the public and investors of the company by providing false information about the companys revenues. The company was seen as one of the most profitable and successful companies in the United States while in fact it was facing permanent losses.
