24 October Review of the Core of the Palestine-Israel Conflict Who are Palestine refugees? UNRWA describes Palestine refugees as any person who resided in Mandate Palestine from the June 1946 to May 1948 (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics). A person who lost their source of livelihood and whose home was destroyed due to the Arab-Israeli war (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics). UNRWA asserts that the registered Palestine refugees are estimated to be 5.4 million persons. Out of the 5.4 million refugees, it indicates that a one-third of them reside in refugee camps. They reside in fifty-eight established refugee camps in several Middle-East countries (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics).
UNRWA-registered refugees in Jordan stand at 1,983,000 million refugees. Jordan has 10 refugee camps. Lebanon just over 425,640 refugees and 12 refugee camps. Syria has around 472109 registered refugees and 9 refugee camps. Palestine-Israel has 778,993 refugees and 19 refugee camps. These figures are as of January this year (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics).
