With a good time management program, you will be able to have the option of arranging the time when you can meet up with your prospective clients. In terms of financial income, you can earn at least $30,000 each year in the holiday ornament business as compared to at least $40,000 per annum if you could complete at least four appraisals each week at the value of $200 each. In other words, the possible financial gain out of making the ornaments is way much less as compared to the profit you can earn if you choose to become a real estate agent. In any business, operational expenses are always expected to be high in the beginning. Given that you are able to complete at least six appraisals each week at the value of $200 each, you will be able to earn as much as $57,600 revenues per annum. For this reason, the $10,000 start-up costs associated with becoming a real estate agent is not a big issue. If we deduct $10,000 start-up costs in your annual revenue of $57,600, you will still end up earning $47,600 on your first year. This amount of income is really promising as compared to the holiday ornament business. Depending on your ability to close a business deal, your annual revenue could still increase over the next few years to come. Aside from the potentially higher income, being a real estate agent will allow you to have more opportunities to meet different people each time you need to meet up with your potential client. This kind of opportunity will not only help you increase your confidence dealing with a variety of people but also your communication skills. For these reasons, being a real estate agent is more beneficial for you in terms of exploring your personal goals. The purpose of Thoreau’s essay is to convince the Americans that “the government is best which governs not at all” (Thoreau, 2008). Based on the thesis statement, a rhetoric argument will be developed as to why the supports or opposes some of Thoreau’s main arguments. Thesis Statement “The Loophole behind Thoreau’s ‘Civil Disobedience” Opposition to Thoreau’s Statement in ‘Civil Disobedience’ Thoreau stated that the government can make decisions that are not equally ‘just’ to all men since that law in the United States once permitted the legalization of slavery in the country (Thoreau, 2008; McElroy, 2005). I totally opposed with Thoreau’s argument that “government is best which governs least” (Thoreau, 2008). Because of Thoreau’s personal detest on slavery and hatred against the U.S. government (McElroy, 2005), it is clear that Thoreau has totally neglected the ‘real’ function of the government which is to govern a country or state. This is necessary for the economic development of a country. As a result of his own protest, he made a generalized statement that “government is best when they govern the least” (Thoreau, 2008). It is unavoidable for some country’s government officials to be corrupt due to hunger for more power or money. This type of government officials are more likely to make unjust decisions which are solely grounded for their own benefits. However, there will always be an exception to the rule. In the case of Oman, Sultan Qaboos bin Said is very well respected by his people for being able to develop an effective strategy that could increase the country’s economic and social progress (Omanet.om, 2008). In line with this matter, Sultan Qaboos did not only remove the unnecessary restrictions that could impede the economic progress in Oman but also gave the people an equal opportunity for education and employment regardless of gender and race (Eickelman, 1993). In reality, not all ‘government officials’ or ‘government as a whole’ is corrupt or unjust to his own fellowmen. Given the example that was presented in the case of Oman, Thoreau can be considered as being judgmental and acting against all forms of government because of his own personal agenda1. Conclusion With the use of rhetoric communication, Thoreau was able to gather a large number of low-class American citizens to protest against the U.S. government. By gathering a large number of protesters, justice in the legal and political system in the United States became possible. Personally, I do not agree with the statement of Thoreau stating that the government’s system is unjust.
