Personal and Social Relationships Social relationships occur between two or more people and they contribute to how people relate with each other concerning various issues. These relationships are generally built by some of the interests that people share. It is clearly observed that people who have common interests are in a position to share out their outlooks as well as thoughts on various experiences. There are two categories of people and these are the ones who free are willing to share with others what they have experienced. On the other hand there are some who find it hard to reveal the experiences they have had before topeople around them. (Lerner, 1986) When it comes to making friends, what matters is whether you have the same kind of experience the other person has and also the readiness you have to share with the other person. At the same time you should be willing to listen to their experience because he or she might be having a different experience other than yours or nearly the same. This is very important because it makes them feel that they are recognized by the person to whom he is sharing the same experience. Because of this he or she will always be willing to share with the same friend and this in turn strengthens your relationship. (Kling, 1996) On the other hand it is easy to for one to lose a friend if you don’t give him time to share out what he has to with you. If a friend listens to you it is very important that you equally give him or the same attention. Friends are very important because in time of need they will always be ready to stand for you before other people. Their company also proves to be very interesting when hanging out. (In Smelser, 1963) Some people may find it difficult to relate with others because they have specific interests only in particular areas. It might be because that people around them don’t share similar interests. Such people are therefore advised to go to places where they are in aposition to find individuals with the same kind of interest for example they can attend events which bring people of the same interest together or even certain clubs where people share the same interest. (Kling, 1996) It is for this reason that institutions have come up with clubs of various kindsand events to group this people together. They normally meet and discuss certain issues which all of them tend to prioritize. Currently the internet has greatly contributed in grouping these people with specific interests together. Regardless of place and time they can easily interact through the Sometimes at the early stages of a relationship it may feel easy and exciting but for a long lasting relationship both partners must be actively involved by giving their efforts in building the relationship. Building a good foundation is very important for a relationship and this involves respect between the partners as well as appreciating what your partner has done for you. For example in couples they always tend to appreciate whatever has been done for them even if it is something small. This may also mean taking into consideration what your partner says and then giving compliments. This makes either of the partner feel that he or she is valued in a relationship. (Brody, 1994). Furthermore, the partners in the relationship may try to discover what they both have in common so that whenever they are spending time both will be enjoying the same things. As much as people are not perfect any of the partners can make a mistake in a relationship and because of this there must be an established way of apologizing for the mistake. This is important because it makes the other partner feel that you are responsible for the actions you did. Sometimes partner in a relationship may get a topic which they will never come to an agreement and in such occasions both have to agree to disagree and continue with the relationship. (Marinelli, 1999). Both partners in a relationship must know that at times an individual needs his or her own time away from the other partner. This should be clear so as to avoid misunderstanding between the partners. When a partner fails to consider this he or she might feel that the other partner seems to be avoiding him or her. Therefore, a partner should always share with the other partner when the time is meant for both of them. Relating with people is something we do daily and because of this, individuals need to know that some rules have to be taken into consideration when interacting. This may be summed up communication skills and may involve active listening, influencing among others. The way an individual expresses his opinions should match with the emotions, language used as well as even the tone. All these help in delivering the message effectively to listening partner. Social relationships are very essential because they are the core source when giving a backup to emotions in people. It has been seen that marriage is the most noticeable source of support and stress for many individuals. This is simply because it entails a lot responsibility that one has to perform and people who are not financially stable in most cases. At times this problem might be solved by having a better way of communication between the partners involved. A better relationship will enable the two arrive at an agreement as well as understand what is possible together with what is not. (Marinelli, 1999) In our lifetime we are always subjected to social setups that may beeither be advantageous or disadvantageous and a variation in social relationships can give information that can be used to address social inequalities revolving around people. Parents and peers have an influence on how individuals are going to relate with the people around them because people normally borrow most the behaviors from parents and peers since they spend most of the time with them. It is therefore advisable for parents to ensure that children behave in a manner that will make it easy to relate with other people in they meet with.It has been noted that whites are considered to have good social relationships compared to the blacks, which also applies to the educated and the non-educated. The educated group of people is always in a better position in relationships because they are informed and in many situations they get exposed to different set ups where they meet with different people. (Wallace, 1994) Research shows that most of the people who are good in relationships must have obtained this as they were growing up; it also shows that people of the same age are in a good position to relate easily as compared to people with different age groups. Self-esteem is a very important factor when it comes to that must be taken into consideration because individuals lacking self-esteem have been shown to be poor in social relationships. Most of the parents should ensure that children have self-esteem because it will make them confident before others, help them in making right decisions even in times of challenging situations and to relate well with others. An individual is always able to share easily with others if he has self-esteem which eventually helps in building up a good relationship with people around them. Therefore, relationships are very important in our day to day life because they enable us to relate and feel comfortable when aroundother people. For children, they must be taught social skills so as to interact well with others. References Brody, C. M., & Wallace, J. (1994). Ethical and social issues in professional education.
