Running Head: Islamic Quiz Islamic Quiz [Institute’s Islamic Quiz Introduction Prophet Muhammad, his lifestyle, sayings, deedsand his way of life occupies a central position in Islamic theology and practice. In fact, he lived his life in a way so Muslims until the end of this world may have an example and a role model to follow. Since Islam claims to be providing guidance to its followers for all walks of life, therefore, there is no aspect of Prophet Muhammad’s life, which is not open for Muslims or is questionable for more than 1.2 billion Muslims living all over this globe. This paper is an attempt to present the basic points discussed in Surah Al-Hujuraat in form of a conversation between two people. Secondly, this paper, in light of various Hadiths would try to define the physical characteristics of a Muslim and desired characteristics of an ordinary Muslim. Discussion Dialogue Hello Hi How are you today? I am fine, thanks for asking. What about you? I am good. Sir have you heard anything about this person sitting in front of us. I remember someone telling me that he is a drunk and he beats his wife. Oh! That is bad if it is true. By the way, who told you this? I do not remember exactly, some random person. Brother, let me tell you that even I have some news regarding this person but I would never trust it or spread it out until and unless the source is verified. May be I should stalk him to find out what is the truth I understand your concern sir. Nevertheless, let me tell you that our religion prohibits us from backbiting or looking at someone with suspicion. In fact, backbiting is like eating the flesh of your dead brother according to Quran. Yes, I think you are right Additionally, I would suggest you not to scorn that person until and unless we are sure about something. As Quran says, who knows, he may be better than us. Only the almighty has the power to decide who the best is and who the worst is. Moreover, even if this couple is fighting we should try to help them resolve their issues since our religion condemns fights and asks us to bring peace. I totally agree. These are basic principles of Islam. This is what we get to learn by looking at the life of Prophet Muhammad. That explains why he led a life that was different from others so that we can have an example. True. Moreover, I believe that blessed are those people who have strengthen their faith and have developed extreme dislike for sins and Kufur. Agreed, the best way to live life would be by fearing Allah, obeying his commands as told by the Prophet and in the Quran. I second your opinion. I think I am getting late. I had a great conversation with you. I would like to meet you sometime later as well. Sure. That would be my pleasure. See you then. Good bye Bye Physical characteristics of Prophet and Characteristics of a Muslim Anas bin Malik, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad described the appearance of Prophet as “He was of average height, not too tall and not too short, with a pinkish color, not very white and not dark, and his hair was neither very curly nor very straight. The Revelation came to him when he was forty years old, and he stayed in Makkah for ten years after the Revelation came, then in Madeenah for ten years. When he died, there were no more than twenty white hairs on his head and in his beard (Sultan & Ali, pp. 56, 79 & 225, 2005)." Ali said, "He was neither tall nor short, and had large hands and feet. He had a large head and was big-boned, and the thin line of hair (starting from his chest and extending to the navel) was long. When he walked, he would lean forward, as if he was walking downhill. I have never seen anyone like him, before or since (Abdul-Rahman, pp. 269, 2003)." By looking at these couple of sayings about Prophet Muhammad, we can draw following conclusions about the physical appearance of Prophet. Firstly, he was of moderate height. Secondly, his hairs were somewhere in between from being extremely curly or being extremely straight. He would walk by leaning forward in humble and modest style. Thirdly, Prophet Muhammad had a moderately large head. Fourthly, he was not very hairy but had a thin line of hair on his chest. Lastly, Prophet Muhammad himself did and told others, “Eat with your right hand” (Esposito, pp. 89-93, 2010). Moreover, Abdullah Bin Haris said that I have not seen any person smiling more than Prophet has in my entire life. In addition, Anas bin Malik said, “Prophet had a well defined way of drinking water. He would take three breaths or breaks while drinking at one time” (Esposito, pp. 89-93, 2010). In addition, scholars (Sina, pp. 161, 2008) indicated that Prophet Muhammad was owner of big hands, and witnesses have praised of his soft palms. Besides, he had wavy hairs and a habit of leaning forward while walking. Following are some of the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad regarding the characteristics of a Muslim. “A person is not a Muslim if his neighbor sleeps with an empty stomach (Esposito, pp. 89-93, 2010)”. “The believer eats in one stomach whilst the kaafir eats in seven (Abdul-Rahman, pp. 138, 2007).” “The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one third with food, one third with drink and one third with air (al-Tibrizi, pp. 770-800, 1981).” “It is obligatory on every Muslim man and woman to seek and acquire knowledge” (Ahmed, pp. 234, 2005) “Cleanliness is half of the faith” (Rodinson, pp. 136-139, 2002) “The best is the have who upholds his moral values is the best possible way” (Sultan & Ali, pp. 56, 79 & 225, 2005). The following Hadith of Prophet Muhammad helps us to create a five-point picture of any Muslim. Firstly, Prophet has instructed that a Muslim would embrace modesty and patience while eating and would never over eat. Secondly, he would never ever let his neighbors (people living around him in the society) to sleep with an empty stomach or in other words would consider it as his own responsibility to take care of them (Esposito, pp. 89-93, 2010). Thirdly, Prophet has clearly defined that any Muslim man or woman who fails to acquire and seek education does not fulfill his or her duties correctly. Fourthly, a Muslim would lose half of his faith if he were not clean. Lastly, along with religious practices, a Muslim would live his live according to the highest moral principles and values (Rodinson, pp. 136-139, 2002). References Abdul-Rahman, Muhammad Saed.
