Competency Goal II Essay

All the time, I try to put more emphasis on staying healthy for my children. This is achieved by doing proper exercise that is recommended by doctors. I make sure the children go out to play every day if the weather is favorable. We have yoga sessions at home, which I do together with my children. The importance of yoga is to help the children stretch and improve their physiques and hence having healthier blood circulation in their bodies.

One major benefit of exercising in the morning is that it helps the children if they are exhausted. I concluded that a day becomes successful if the children are mot worn-out or sleepy. This is the competency goal II essay.

My duty as a headmaster, I do try to plan all my activities diligently to grow my critical thinking skills. I also take some time to plan activities that will enable the children to develop skills. Most of the free time, we play, ask open-minded questions, play mind triggering games, and also start sensory parts. My questions are always based on the present-day events and social experiences that my children will relate to easily. An excellent example of these types of problems is, after Goldilocks ran into the woods, what happened next?

I then give the children some time to think and wait to see what gestures children will display. Their responses are as follows:

  • She ran away from the three bears chasing her as fast as she could.
  • She went home and narrated the whole ordeal to her parents.
  • She ran to the police station.

We also play guessing names game. An example of this kind of a game is; guess who. I could start by asking, what is white with some black stripes, belongs to the same family with the horse. The children would then shout, "Zebra." These games help trigger the brain and help the children think faster. Most of the questions would revolve around park animals or a trip they went with the school. Furthermore, we would also play memory games. I could tell them to take a quick look at certain pictures, such as cards, and ask questions from there.

After doing this, all cards placed on the table facing downwards. I start by picking the first card, see the picture on it, and then turn it over. I pick the second card and ask the children the same. After mastering all the pictures, we could now guess what card each person picked. This game was enjoyable for the children. By playing this game, the memory of the children is aroused after playing for some time.

Finally, we also play guessing games through the use of senses. We could use two significant senses, touch, and smell. I could take two boxes and put on different substances. Each child would be blindfolded and then given permission to feel and smell the contents of both cases. The game starts now. I would start by asking them to name the specific thing they felt or smelt. I could make them describe the item they are holding. They did it to their level best. This game opens their mind and makes them think critically. As the head of this family, intellectual growth is very critical. It plays a significant role in their school work. All the activities I design are meant for the development of mental ability in children; hence I do it articulately. These activities make children think analytically, visualize, and discover nature as they see or feel it. Sensory triggering games and memory games are believed to be worthy instruments when strengthening the abilities our children have.

The other element I emphasize is the art of communication. If a parent wants to know if their child is still learning, one must frequently ask questions. I usually provide a favorable environment for each child so that they could develop their communication skills. Children like it when parents intermingle with them and acknowledge them in all their activities. During morning classes, I insist that each child get a chance to talk to the group about how they felt and also their objective the wish to achieve in the day. I try to encourage them to speak their mind and not to worry about what their counterparts will say. In class, we do a lot of reading. We do it in turns. We also listen to some cool music when in class so that they could grab some new vocabulary. I encourage them to make sure they learn a new thing each day.

The last aspect is creativity. Even today, when I am the headmaster, creativity is one of the parts I find challenging. I decided to make my plans based on the activities children do, which turned out to be much tranquil. During our regular discussion on this particular day, we debated over the woodlands, and the children got excited since they thought I was planning a site fire. I went on and asked the children what materials could be used in such a camp and start a campsite fire. A group of children suggested that paper rolls could be used as the firewood. The next step was rolling pieces of paper. We made at least thirty paper rolls.

The next question was by what means are we going to light up the firewood. A particular child started rubbing two fingers signaling the traditional means of making fire. That was an excellent idea. I enquired what items could be used in place of the two fingers being rubbed together to make fire. Another child came with the thought of using pencils in place of sticks used to make fire. The children took turns to rub pencils together. The next question was talking about the color of the paper to be used to make the fire. All children picked their favorite paper color.

The next step was placing these "logs" (in our case paper) in a lattice manner. One kid started rubbing the two sticks of the paper. I sat aside and let the children make the camp fire as they visualized. We had made an artificial camp fire. These activities acted as an excellent example of creativity in a child by embracing their interests. It's much easier to plan for such activities if you base the plan on the interests of the children. It is always good to listen to the views of the children. Try to write all the hobbies of each kid on a piece of paper. This makes it engaging to every child, and they will enjoy your class. Give it a try, and you will see the results.
