Personal Theories: Name: Affiliation: Date: Personal Theories Abstract There are many theories that govern the daily life indicating the source of different opinions exhibited by people today. Personal theories about life provide a platform for different ideologies creating different opinions for people. Presence of varied opinions creates an opportunity for different people in the society. The different people calls for distinctive description terms such as good, bad or even worst. The description terms emanates from the effects of the personal theories towards people in the immediate society (Gast & Patmore 2012). It is important that human beings develop a self-awareness approach towards life. Knowing about one’s abilities in life in order to drive change in the society. It is challenging one to influence change in the community or empowering different groups without believing in his abilities. However, despite the advantages that come from self-awareness, it is paramount to note that self-awareness should not override respect to diversity in the society. One should develop control mechanisms to ensure that others peoples abilities are as well respected and nurtured at the community level. Therefore, it is important to consider the effects of the personal theories to minimize the negative effects and the same time create good orientation towards life and community at large. The following paper will discuss my personal theories of hard work, diversity, equality, respect, and excellence in the society. Introduction Personal theories are paramount in ensuring that life moves towards the desired direction. When serving the community, people need to have the right attitudes towards life since it becomes easy to achieve the desired goals with community members and groups such as the disabled. For instance, at the community level, people who believe in hard work will tend to enforce the same theories in the society and through that making it easy to achieve the desired objectives (Ashcraft, 2012). In addition, community service requires dedication and determination. Therefore, it is important that workers, especially project managers, believe in the theory of hard work in order to achieve greater success because they will compel people to work hard and ensure the set goals are achieved. Additionally, the theory of hard work will community service agents to encourage people to value working hard and in the process create good rapport with community members. Under normal circumstances, when development agents in the community cherish industriousness, they become productive and in the process, it becomes easy to achieve organizational and individual goals (Gast & Patmore 2012). Further, it is critical for people in the community to learn how to respect diversity of opinions and culture, which fosters harmonious coexistence. Additionally, sharing resources in the community among disabled groups should be emphasized since humans are generally social and thus they need to share with one another. It is also important that human beings respect one another and uphold the personal theory of excellence. The following paper intends to discuss personal theories of hard work, diversity, equality, respect, and excellence in the community. Personal Theories and how They Influence My Practice Working in the community is such a challenging experience since it requires hard work and effectively applying theoretical knowledge into practice. It is crucial that human beings should work hard in order to achieve their self-actualization (Gast & Patmore 2012). Social workers should not be tempted to believe that he can meet his goals in life without hard work. However, hard work for success applies to all human kinds in the community. Study shows that the source of poverty in the community and many of the problems faced by human kind are due to laziness and failure to embrace the reality of hard work. Although this is painful reality, I find it important that community problems are better solved when people come together with a common purpose of hard work. Many will agree with me that most of those who have succeeded in bringing change in the community have a painful background due to the efforts they applied. However it cannot be over emphasized that hard work should be a collective responsibility, since some people sit back and wait for others to work hard , only to rely on them for assistance. In this sense, the value of hard work is lost as it is left to a few in the community. The reality of hard work in life makes people who believe that success emanates from hard work think that unsuccessful people do not work hard. Study indicates that to some extent this is true. Therefore, in order to minimize the problems that people face in the community, such as hunger, unemployment and diseases, it is the responsibility of every human being to work hard. At the community level, human kind must respect the diversity that is present. Diversity is a 21st century theory approached across the globe. People in the community are talented in various ways. Disabled people are able to work in perform activities differently. This means that everyone needs to be treated uniquely. As a personal theory, diversity theory ensures that persons embrace each other, including accepting the minority groups such as disabled, segregated races, lesbians and gays among other people who might face alienation (Bradberry, 2009). Therefore, this theory makes it possible to benefit from services offered by such groups and eventually contributing to the greater good. Further, I believe that sharing with one another should be the way forward towards improving life, which emphasizes personal theory of equality. This theory is another paramount assertion that has played very crucial role in facilitating quality interpersonal relationships in my life. It is necessary to ensure that all people irrespective of their nationality and color are able to enjoy similar services and opportunities. The assertion emanates from biblical assertions that all human beings are equal in the sight of God. The equality aspect makes it possible for people to enjoy the readily available resources and opportunities irrespective of location. The United Nations human rights charter asserts that all human beings are equal and they should enjoy the resources and opportunities equally. Respect to all people is another theory that is paramount when working in the community (Gast & Patmore 2012). Respect is the most important aspect of a good personality. Respecting other people, means have total allegiance to their personality and holding the truth about them. Providing appropriate respect to the people calls for a reciprocated action that culminates in overall harmonious relationship in community service. However, failure to hold on to the respect culminates in sour relationship amongst workers and colleagues, thus affecting the achievement of community objectives.. Therefore, general respect theory irrespective of diversity, location, race and other particulars is a crucial undertaking that ensures that peace and tranquility prevails in the community. Failure to uphold the personal respect towards all people makes it difficult for other people to continue working harmoniously hence reducing productivity (Gast & Patmore 2012). On the other hand, some people may find the accorded respect as a path to orchestrate vices in the society. Allowing delimitation of respect as a personal theory downgrades the values in the society hence affecting how community works. Excellence is essential in the competitive world that people live today. For one to overcome the challenges that we face today, it is important to take into account the excellence aspect (E.R., 2006). Excellence as a personal theory does not call for any cases of irresponsibility because it can easily attract failure, which is not acceptable in this case. Therefore, excellence as a theory calls for dedication in pursuit of adherence (Hovliaras, 2012). It is important to note that in the society excellence plays a critical role in enhancing one’s personal life performance. The adherence to excellence calls for dedication and cases of failure are not acceptable (Hovliaras, 2012). However, strict observance to excellence will not give chance for people to learn from their mistakes. Mistakes provide a room for learning and denying people this chance makes them work like robots without meaningful changes, which has greatly helped me in community service. It is good to make mistakes in life since when people make mistakes, they will learn from them hence increasing chances of success in future (E.R., 2006). How Personal Theories have influenced My Practice positively and negatively The diversity theory has enabled me as an individual to reap more benefits through utilizing the diversity ideas and skills that have been useful in the working environment. I was privileged to be in an internship programme last year where I was attending disabled children at children’s home. I came to realize that each child had unique talents and abilities. My belief in diversity and respect of the same helped me to serve them uniquely, an attribute I saw in other social workers. This is an indication that diversity is a crucial personal theory because it will ultimately contribute to the greater good in the community. I must agree that the aspect of hardworking has played an instrumental role in my practice. Two years ago, I was involved in the mobilization of youth in my local community. The objective was to ensure that as many youths as possible were registered as voters in the following election. The hard work that I applied in the project made me become the leader of the entire group and later being awarded with a certificate for the outstanding performance that saw more than 90% of the youth registered. On the other hand, while working with the disabled in the community, equality theory has taught me to be mindful of diversity and respecting one another. However, I will continue to encourage my friends, relatives, fellow students and colleagues in community service to work hard and excel in life. Why Self-Awareness is Crucial to Professional Practice Self-awareness refer to understanding of oneself and behaving and acting in respect of that knowledge (Corey, 2011). Self-awareness it is one of the core element that give human kind confidence and courage in executive every aspect of life. Self-awareness is a vehicle of self-actualization. It helps an individual to accept personal attributes and understand the weaknesses and strengths that one holds (Corey, 2011). It must be agreed that self-awareness plays a pivotal role in any professional practice. It refers one’s perspective of self-identify including inspirations, shortcomings, and thoughts and likes a dislikes. Understanding one’s personal attributes helps one to gauge his judgment and reaction of others, which is crucial in professional practice (Corey, 2011). Further, self-awareness makes an individual understand areas that need improvement in life. Such areas should call for more effort and dedication. At the same time, having good relationship with all stakeholders is crucial (Corey, 2011). Therefore, knowing oneself helps one to create healthy relationship with customers, employees and other groups involved in the business. Strategies I Will Put Into Place to Limit the Negative Impacts of My Personal Theories In order to ensure that negative impacts of personal theories are minimized, I intend to improve my ability of processing information. My experience has taught me that understanding any information is crucial in order to act effectively. Therefore, I will improve my communication skills by applying the act of listening, which will be instrumental in understanding the needs of community members and providing the necessary solution. Further, I will create a better relationship with all groups in the community that I will be working in order to instill the above theories in them, which will reduce the negative effects. Finally, I intend to encourage my colleagues to work hard, embrace diversity and respecting other people in the community. Conclusion Personal theories are crucial in determining the normal day-to-day relationships. Strict Observance of such theories leads to success and formation of healthy relationships amongst community members. However, failure to consider individual differences might lead to conflicts that might reduce the general productivity of the change agents. It is paramount to work out the personal theories in such a way that they facilitate realization of community and individual as well as general wellbeing of all groups. References Ashcraft, D. M.
