The Video What Motivates Us The behavior of people is influences by different things. This ranges from the manner they are socialized, the beliefs that they have about themselves, the environment that they grow in. The careers than people engage in and their view in life in general are influenced by these factors. For instance, if a person is brought up in poverty, the parents who have failed to overcome poverty may have already given up. They would not have great expectations on their children such as joining college and getting good jobs. They would expect them to may be work in the factories and live the same life. Since they may have never gone to college, they may belief that college is not for them. They may also view the rich as coming from a different world and not aspire to reach that level. However, if a person from a poor background gets motivated and believes that they can scale them heights of poverty and works towards achieving this goal, they are successful. Those who have already given in to poverty do not make any effort to progress and end up being in the same status. On the other hand, people who are brought up in rich families are socialized to succeed. They are encouraged to get the best education and get good jobs. They believe that the good life belongs to them and strive towards achieving them. In this paper, the views of the video of What Motivates Us and Insight on HIV, In stunning data visuals are used as a way of explaining how different factors affecting learning in college. The video What Motivates Us is an animation of Dan Pink talk. In the video what motivates us, Dan talks about the influence of intrinsic motivation on the behavior of people both at home and at the work place. According to him, what really motivate people are not the external rewards such as money but the intrinsic factors such as recognition, appreciation and achievement. This implies that if a person wants to be successful in anything, they should look for something that really fulfils them. This important in making career choices. Many people do jobs that do not intrinsically satisfy them despite the fact that the jobs are well paying. People are advised to make a living out of their hobby. This is because that is something that they enjoy and would not be bored. This applies to the school set up. Students should choose courses in which they have interest in and which they belief that their career will arise from. Today with the increase in the level of unemployment, many people are going for courses that they belief are marketable in the job market. They end up doing jobs they have and are continually dissatisfied with their jobs. There is no job that is not marketable as long as one does the job well. This is because despite the fact that there are many people who have educational qualification for various occupations, they lack the necessary skills needed to be good in those jobs. However, if a person studies for a career that they have interest in, the need to develop the required skills will come naturally and they would a good fit for such jobs unlike people whose only interest is to get good money. In learning, Pink emphasizes the need for one-one teaching instructions. According to him, if the learners had a one on one interaction with the teacher, they would really pass. This is because such an interaction makes the student feel that the teacher understands them and esteems them as individuals and not groups in the whole class. The student is also able to get immediate feedback from the teacher. The teacher can also get cues from the student that shows that they do not understand. The instructor also gets to know the student at a personal level and is able to approach different subjects having this information in mind. Effectively teaching a whole class is difficult because they all come from different backgrounds, have different beliefs and attitudes and thus conceive things different. The teacher cannot approach the subjects from all those different angels so not all students benefit from a learning discourse. Having a class with a minimal number of students is encouraged as a way of making learning more effective. Insight on HIV, in stunning data, the global trend in healthcare are illustrated in data sing. Form the video, it is evident that the information that people have on developing world are erroneous. Rosling shows that the so called third world progression towards improved healthcare in twice as fast as that in the developed. The third world countries are quickly overcoming healthcare problems and scaling the heights of poverty. He shows the big picture of health trend in world using real statistics. The video creates a clarification on the world health trend and this breaks the misconception that people have on the developing countries. Previously, the notion that developing countries are the hub for poverty and disease have discouraged people from working and investing in these countries. The information from this video shows the real picture and this now influences how people view the developing countries. In the learning environment, there are many factors that influence the effectiveness of the learning interaction. One of the important factors is the student attitude towards the teacher and the course being taken. For instance, if the student have a negative attitude on the teacher based on religious differences or their perception on the effectiveness of the teacher in teaching or any other factor, they will not perform well in that class. This is because the negative attitude will naturally block their mind from receiving instructions. The same applies to attitudes towards a subject. If a student has a negative attitude towards a subject they will not pass despite the instructions being given in an effective manner. For instance, a number of people view mathematics and anything related to calculations as difficult, as such no matter how simple the subject may be presented, they would not pass. In order to pass in any course, one should have a positive attitude towards the subject and the teacher. Another crucial factor that affects learning is beliefs. It could be cultural or religious believes. Culture influences people thinking and how they receive information. If the student feel that what is being taught in a certain course is against their beliefs then they will not be very receptive and will stick to their beliefs. For instance, teaching literature to Muslim students on set books that have themes that are against their religious beliefs provokes resistance. The student creates a sort of a mind block and is thus not able to get the information that the instructor gives as intended. The most important factor affecting learning is the manner that the instructions are presented. The student centered methods are more effective in learning compared to teacher centered methods. Student centered methods involves all the senses that is sight, hearing and feeling. This increases the rate of information retention compared to when the traditional lecture methods are used in learning. Uses of diverse teaching methods that increase the interaction between the teacher and the learner and keep the learner engaged are encouraged. This includes researches, class presentations, discussion, using the interactive forums online and practical classes are encouraged. It has been observed that different motivators affect the behavior of people at work, in school and at home. Understanding the motivation of an individual can be used to make the effective at work and at school. Learning can also be enhanced by understanding each learner in terms on what motivates them, their attitudes and believes. Learning is further enhanced by using the most effective method of instruction that keeps the learner engaged. Emphasize has been put on having one-one student interaction as it acts a motivator to student who feels that the teacher is focused on them as opposed to teaching a big class where students are different.
