It is frequently used as a post-treatment therapy for recovering people from the painful trauma or distress. Hypnosis can also be used as a relaxation therapy for reducing the unwanted stress in the life of people. The essay presents an argumentative view upon the effect of hypnosis as the health care professional represents both sides of the hypnosis therapy. Hypnosis therapy contains both aspects of treatment, which includes the negative sides as well as positive sides. It can be stated that the positive impact of hypnosis represents a strong impact upon the human health with less negative effects. I. Introduction Hypnosis is a sub conscious state of mind, which involves concentration along with focused thought. Hypnosis is a technique, which is used for various therapies and is commonly known as Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is one of the vital aspects regarding the study of psychology. Hypnosis frequently refers to the state of consciousness, which includes the focused attention to a particular matter enhancing the capacity of a person. It can also be described that hypnosis is a field of study, which is related with theoretical and experimental research. Hypnosis is an important clinical tool of hypnotherapy, which has an effective impact upon the human health. Generally, hypnosis is done with the help of a therapist for greater effectiveness. Observably, therapist mainly hypnotizes individuals with the help of mental image and verbal repetition. People who are hypnotized feels very relax and clam. In the state of hypnosis people become more open to adopt any suggestion. It can also be described that the hypnosis refers to the different level of consciousness of a mind for better results and effectiveness with the help of the therapist or professionals. There are two possibilities of getting into the hypnotic state, one is naturally and second is spontaneously. The clinical hypnosis is mainly used for treating peoples with certain health related problems such as psychological and physical. The clinical hypnosis is specially used upon the patients in order to reduce their chronic pain and make them feel relaxed both physically and mentally. However, hypnosis is a part of the psychological study but is also applicable in various field of the health related study such as few addiction problems, weight issues and some disorders can be mitigated with the help of hypnosis (HML, 2006). It can be stated that hypnosis has been used in the medical field as a medicine since 100 years for curing the mental anxiety of individuals and also for relaxing their mind. Hypnosis is one of the most important and interesting topic of the medical science as it has various benefits along with view negatives if not performed accordingly. The National institute of Health (NIH) of the United State has invested in various clinical trials of complementary and alternative medicine. In this context, hypnosis is one of the most vital topic in which the NIH has been investing money (Gurgevich, 2003). It can be observed by the several studies based upon hypnosis that it has its own importance in the medical field. There are many studies, which states that people continuously come across the process of hypnosis in their daily life. Most of the time people do not realize about the procedures of hypnotism that they are coming across with. The importance of the hypnosis includes self-improvement, self-determination and also overcoming bad habits (Astin, 2010). The study has a few objectives regarding the effect of hypnosis in the medical science. The study describes the importance of the effectiveness of hypnotism as an alternative medicine. The research intends to present the arguments in favor and against of the use and effect of hypnosis as an alternative medicine. II. The science of Hypnosis In the modern era, hypnosis is used as an alternative treatment for treating some pain, anxiety stress and other mental disorder, which can affect the human health in both negative and positive way. In many cases hypnosis has been used for the relaxing people before treating any medical procedures such as breast biopsy. However, in this regard it is worth mentioning that the result of hypnosis varies to a considerable extent from one individual to another. It is evident that under the influence of hypnosis a few individual feel relaxed and other remain detached. Therefore, to understand the importance and loopholes of hypnosis over individuals are elaborated below, both the negative and positive effects. II. I Positive Effects Hypnotism is considered as one of the safe treatments, which has been applied as an alternative medicine. People who suffer from several chronic diseases are referred to hypnotherapy. The hypnosis is one of the significant treatments, which helps people in getting cured and relaxed (Grossman, 2014). In this regard it can be stated that hypnosis includes the process of learning which helps in controlling the mind of a person for managing distress. In other words, hypnosis is a form of cooperative interaction wherein individual responds or reacts as per the hypnotist’s suggestion. Various positive effects of hypnosis are elaborated hereunder: Hypnosis helps in reducing Addiction. Several research papers have stated that hypnosis is a useful treatment for addiction. Numerous types of addiction have been removed by the hypnosis therapy. Hypnosis helps to get rid of several addictions, which include the habit of having fast food or junk foods, alcohol, drugs and smoking. There are several other addictions which can be removed with the help of hypnosis therapy. The hypnosis therapy influence human being thoughts to a considerable extent in order to provide relief from addiction, which harms their health. Hypnosis therapy works in an extremely effective manner in order to cure individual and prohibit them from getting addicted again (Grossman, 2014). Hypnosis is influential in curing the addition, which are caused due to the emotional distress and anxiety. Through the help of hypnosis the therapist provides suggestions and ideas to influence the thoughts of the individual for better effectiveness. Hypnosis helps in Weight Loss. Hypnosis also helps people in weight loss process. It can be observed from various studies that hypnotisms are 30% more useful in the treatment of weight loss rather than dieting. People who are addicted and have overeating tendency or behavior are seen to be over weighed. The medical health care experts consider hypnosis to be an effective therapy for treating the over weighted people. Hypnosis helps in influencing or changing thoughts by eliminating the psychological needs and psychological reason for over eating (Grossman, 2014). Hypnosis in Chronic Pain. Hypnosis is also helpful in treating various types of chronic pains. It can be observed that many health care professional are applying hypnotism in the treatment of Fibromyalgia, Arthritis and many more. Those pains are life lingering pain. When the drugs, medicine and diet fails to provide relief to the patients from the chronic pain, the final stage they are prescribed is with the hypnosis therapy. It can be observed that hypnosis has work in a significant manner for treating the chronic pain such as Fibromyalgia, Arthritis and more. Many people have been helpful through the treatment of hypnotism. Many researchers in their papers refer hypnosis as an alternative medicine, which work as effective pain management (Csaszar et. al., 2014). Through hypnosis, practitioners have been concentrated on encouraging patients towards self-cure mechanisms, wherein the individuals are intrinsically guided to bring changes in their lifestyle routines, inculcate a positive attitude and take adequate measures for self-care. Hence, working psychologically, the care process help in chronic pain management (Dillworth & Jensen, 2010). It can also be stated that hypnosis is the ultimate pain removing treatment when the pain removing the medicines fails to treat the patients as it affects the thoughts of an individual (Grossman, 2014). Hypnosis as a Stress Management. Hypnosis is a treatment, which helps to reduce the stress from the people. Stress is a serious symptom of several illnesses such as heart dieses, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep disorder and obesity. People who are much stressed out in their lives are not being able to control their stress by excises and medication. In that case hypnosis is the last option of getting rid of the stress. As the hypnosis therapy puts the patients into a deep relaxation situation, which provides adequate time in the mind and body for experiencing proper relaxation (Yapko, 2002). Childhood Issue Related Hypnosis. Hypnosis is also helpful in treating the child hood related issues. The mechanism of hypnosis therapy is to find out the reality or the truth, which made the child sick. There are many cases, which have happened earlier in the childhood that created an impact on the entire life of people. Hypnosis helps to understand the primary problems of the psychological disorder and tries to help people to get rid of it. Hypnosis therapy is a great remedy for treating children who had an abusive childhood. Sleep Disorder and Hypnosis. There are many people in the world who are suffering from the sleep disorder such as insomnia, wakeful sleep and night walking. Hypnosis is one of the most useful therapies, which have been used to cure all the sleep disorders. Health care professionals studying the hypnosis subject describes it as a good therapy for treating people suffering from insomnia and other sleep disorders, which often result in obesity, addiction and stress (Mendoza & Capafon, 2009). As Minosh et. al. (2013) reveals, hypnosis is effective in bringing a cognitive change amid individuals, generally the children, which in turn stimulates positive attitude among these patients. With a positive behavior, these individuals are quite likely to follow a disciplined lifestyle that in turn enhances their self-motivating abilities as well as stress coping competencies, which in turn promotes effectiveness of their medication in manifold (Elkins et. al., 2013). II. II Negative Effects After understanding and gaining knowledge from several researches it can be stated that some people who are treated under the hypnosis therapy face many problems relating to their health. Many researches have pointed out the negative effects of the hypnosis therapy (Lynn, Myer & Mackillop, 2000). The important negative effects of hypnosis are given below: Time Consuming Treatment. Hypnotherapy session is very time consuming as it is a slow process. The reason behind time consumption is that it claims that the proper time in the process of hypnotism have the ability to cure the illness of the patients. The negative impact lies with the process of hypnotism when the process or session is incomplete. This aspect can be more dangerous for the patient in the way of the curing the sickness. Hypnotism cannot work as a quick fix method as it deals with the cognitive aspect of an individual (Lynn et al., 2000). Full Participation from the Client. Hypnotism is a treatment process, which requires complete participation from the patient. The limitation of hypnosis is relating with the patients and their perspective. If the patient is not willing to attend the session and not paying attention towards the session, hypnotism will not work upon the patient in an effective manner. People who have trust upon the hypnosis therapy and also the therapist can be cured through this treatment process of the hypnosis therapy (Lynn et al., 2000). Development in the Right Way. Hypnosis is a therapy which requires various sessions for improvement. Therefore, it can be determined that people who are involved in the hypnosis therapy cannot find the progress right after first session. The improvement through hypnotism is a slow process and requires various sessions. People who are involved in the process of hypnosis therapy do not get immediate progress in their health if not directed in the right path (Lynn et al., 2000). Effect on Memory. It can be observed that hypnosis make have a powerful effect on human health. The failed application of the hypnosis therapy has high chances to make a bad impact upon the human health. People who are not getting the right treatment from the hypnosis therapy can become mentally unstable. The bad impact of hypnosis can be more dangerous than the good impact of the human health (Lynn et al., 2000). Hypnosis in Brain Washing. Hypnosis is powerful in manipulating the thoughts of an individual. People who suffer from any mental trauma are sometime prescribed with the hypnosis therapy for treatment. In this particular case people may lose their memories. The negative effect is that sometimes under the influence of this treatment person may lose their good memories and mental stability. This hampers the health throughout the entire process (Lynn et al., 2000). III. Critical Review The study has described about the positive and the negative effect of hypnotism. Though the medical science has declared that hypnotism is much useful as an alternative medicine in the medicine science but there is confusion about its effectiveness. Many people and researcher refer hypnosis as a fraud therapy or the false treatment. They frequently refer hypnotism as a dangerous treatment. However, in many cases people refer hypnosis as an effective treatment. Many doctors often prescribe hypnosis therapy as a substitute medicine. According to the medical science and many health care professionals hypnosis sometimes works in a very efficient way. People who are suffering from the sleeping disorder and stress, hypnosis work as a powerful remedy in order to cure and treat them. In the contrary, few health care professionals explain its dark aspects and its bad effects. It can be stated that the hypnosis is also harmful if the treatment process fails in the middle of the treatment of the patients. There are many arguments, which stand against hypnotism therapy and have been proved to be true in some extent. The hypnosis therapy will not work for those people who want the positive result in a very short span of time. Hypnotism is a very long and time consuming process. Another limitation of the hypnosis therapy is that it can be dangerous for the heart patients. It is particularly owing to the fact that the hypnosis process is emotionally related with the patient’s cognitive behavior wherein their perceptions towards themselves are influenced and steered, which if fails shall cause severe negative impact on the individuals causing stress amid them (Gurgevich, 2003). People who are having chronic heart disease will not be prescribed for the hypnotism therapy. The treatment of hypnotism therapy will include many pros and cons. The other positive effect of the hypnosis therapy is that it can be helpful to promote relaxation in the human body and health. It also refers that hypnotism is a brilliant system for experiencing relaxation from getting rid of the stress faced. It is particularly owing to this reason that hypnosis makes people more creative by providing stress free life, as it is efficient to drive people to a state of deep relaxation. However, the limitation related with the relaxation treatment by the hypnosis is that regular session of the hypnosis can be harmful for some sensitive patients (Gurgevich, 2003). As the study have already described about the time consuming and slow process of the hypnosis therapy it can be a bit risky for the patients. The hypnosis can be helpful for treating child patients or patients who had been abused in their childhood. The mechanism is related to the process of hypnosis treatment is that it helps in partially erasing the bad memories of the patients by controlling the thoughts, which is related with the key incident (Wand, 2014). Hypnosis also is useful for treating people who had any accident in their childhood or in the early life. The regenerating of memory by hypnotism is helpful to understand the behavior of the incident, which affected the human mind at earlier basis. Patients who are depressed or have anxiety can be treated through hypnosis. It can be observed; by the several studies that hypnosis is one of the most effective treatments, which provide 100% relief to the people who are suffering from depression and anxiety. Hypnosis also helps people to make changes in their behavior. This is one of the good aspects of the hypnosis therapy (Gruzelier, 2002). IV. Conclusion Hypnosis is considered as an alternative medicine against medical science. There are several myths associated with hypnosis therapy. Many people prefer the hypnosis for its key advantages such as it is ability to increase the self-confidence of human beings. Hypnosis also tends to increase the level of determination of the people for a healthy life. It can be also stated that the hypnotism is good if people have faith upon the treatment process.
