Discussing Hypnosis School Discussing Hypnosis When looking at being hypnotized, I think that it can occur. I think that some people who are more open to undergoing hypnosis are typically easier to get to slide into that state. They are more vulnerable and eager to become hypnotized. Skeptics and cynics I would think would be more difficult to hypnotize. In some ways it seems like hypnosis and hypnotherapy could almost be a pseudoscience. The whole concept seems to be a phenomenon and I think it would be difficult to be a full believer unless I had undergone it myself.

I think that hypnosis can cause a person to do things that they normally would not do while under hypnosis. However, I do not believe that hypnosis is a cure all for weight loss, quitting smoking, or can heal someone of fears, relieve them of substance addictions or cure disease. While I did not read completely through information on the Hypnotic World website, I was quite surprised at the plethora of information that is available about hypnosis. As I read closer on the sites information, at the bottom I saw the small print about the products offered for download on the website are for relaxation purposes only and are not intended for therapeutic purposes (Hypnotic World, 2012).

It seems strange that their website would sell things that one would think would be for hypnotic purposes but instead actually are not. I think that slipping into such a state that the subconscious is still very much capable of functioning as following directions. While self hypnosis also exists, I find it difficult to believe that one could achieve hypnosis on their own because I do not understand how a person could assume both roles. It seems hard to believe. I think that other cultures try to find ways to induce hypnosis or or altering a state of consciousness in an effort to try to cure others.

I think it is just like any other type of thing that seems unusual, for example, astrology and horoscopes or magic, there is a curiosity about it. I think over time as people continued to be curious about hypnosis, the different cultures saw an interesting technique that somehow worked and always looked for a way to utilize it. I think people always try to find a way to slip out of reality or try to deal with situations without traditional medicine. The spread and interest of hypnosis over multiple cultures is actually quite fascinating.

I think that taking a pill that is a miracle pill to only sleep for an hour but would cause a person to not dream would be a bad idea. I think some disadvantages would be that eventually while a person is only sleeping one hour per night, though their mind would be fresh because of this miracle pill, their body would feel tired or would wear out quicker. Sleep is important for a number of different reasons as it impacts our body and minds entire functionings. Depriving the mind and body of something seems to be capable of ruining all aspects of life.

Dreaming is a slip into subconsciousness while sleeping and to think of never being able to dream again is an unreal thing to grasp. Dreams obviously have a purpose otherwise we would not have them. It is natural for our brains to shut of and escape to another place at another time. Some advantages though of taking such a miracle pill though would be that a person could accomplish a lot more. They would have the ability to become more productive because they would require less sleep to function.

This would mean that instead of eight hours of sleep, that a person would only need one to function on. What a person could do when using an additional seven or so hours in a day would increase overall productivity but could eventually lead to subjecting oneself to more stress. In some ways they would be able to get a lot more things done but at what point do they begin to lose energy? However, would a person be more apt to do so much more that they would feel less stressed because they have more time in the day?

The answers are yet to come. Works CitedHypnotic World. (2012). Hypnosis Facts. Hypnotic World Ltd. Retrieved from http://hypnoticworld.com/facts/history_of_hypnosis.asp.
