The paper “Marriage Therapist and Child Counselor" is a worthy variant of an assignment on psychology. The two will work as a team in overseeing all the counseling issues related to marriages and children. The two members will join hands in handling families and couples experiencing problems. The marriage therapist will be required to apply a variety of techniques such as open family discussions, individual counseling role-playing among others to help families identify, understand and resolve their problems.

On the hand, the child counselor will focus on diagnosing and treating children aged 17 and younger with mental, emotional or behavioral problems.Marriage Therapist’s Job DescriptionTask and Job Statement: the Family therapist will be in charge of collecting information, diagnosing and treating all problems related to marriage.General Job Description: The marriage counselors should work hard in helping individual couples or community groups with marriage related problems. He or she should try to strengthen broken or weak marriages.

Should apply psychotherapeutic, family systems and other professional skills, in diagnosing and treating mental, cognitive and behavioral related, marriage problems. The therapist will also use reference materials in identifying symptoms and diagnosis so as to come up with the correct and appropriate treatment plan.The therapists will be required to attend various forums and seminars on family counseling so as to keep his or her counseling skills updated. He or she will also be required to organize various departmental seminars, so as to equip his or her assistants and other social workers within the department with the required skills needed to execute their work more efficiently.

Above all, the person will be the supervisor of all other workers within the department. Since counseling activities need privacy, the therapists will be offered with a personal office with a secretary (State University, 2012).Specific Duties and Tasks:I. Ask appropriate and leading questions that will help in identifying clients’ problems.II. Effectively collect information from couples using methods such as observation and interviews.III. Exhaustively, discuss with clients so as to plan on post treatment activities. IV. Analyze couples’ problems so as to determine whether to counsel or refer them to other specialists in medicine, or even legal aid.V. Counsel couple on issues such as home management, failing relationships, child-rearing, and in-law issues among others.VI. Advice couples to come up with ways of confronting their problems so as to solve them positively.VII. Consult with other therapists within the institutions in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for various marriage relationships issues.

Education Qualification and other Requirements: A person should have a minimum of a master’s degree in family and marriage from a recognized higher institution. The candidate should possess a minimum of three years of working experience as a family therapist in a recognized large organization. A license as a qualified psychologist practitioner is required. Need to abide by ethical codes and standards. Successfully, completed internships and working experience as a marriage counselor will be an added advantage.

Child/adolescents Counselor’s Job description Task and Job Statement: The person will be in charge of diagnosing and treating children and adolescents with mental, emotional or behavioral related problems.  General Job Description: The task will involve carefully observing children’s’ behavior and understand what they communicate through eliciting various behaviors. The therapists will also be in charge of forming various individualized treatment plans for various problems elicited by kids and adolescents.

The therapist should be able to use a multidisciplinary approach, in diagnosing children’s and adolescents’ problems. Above all, the therapist will be required to establish healthy relationships with the children and adolescents, as it is the basis for diagnosing and treating their problems.The counselor will be required to embrace teamwork and consult with other counselors and assist social workers in perfecting his or her job. He or she should also be aware of any developments taking place in theory and research so as to keep his skills updated.

Apart from diagnosing and treating children and adolescents, the therapists will be supervising any trainee on child therapy in the organization. He or she will also be the supervisor of the assistant counselors and other social workers working in the department. Just as is the case with the marriage therapist, the child counselor will also be provided with a personal office and a secretary (Education-portal, 2012).Specific Tasks and Duties:I. Providing assessment and treatment to children and adolescents either individually or in groups.II. Providing short and long term interventions to children and adolescents problems.III. Focus on the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescent disorder ranging from mental, behavioral and cognitive problems.IV. Devise treatment plan or interventions in case an adolescent is involved in drug abuse.V. Provide support and act as a good role model for adolescents and children.

Education Qualification and Requirements: A person should have a degree in child counseling. Previous experience working with children and adolescents will be an added advantage. A license as a qualified psychologist practitioner is required. Need to abide by ethical codes and standards.
