Outliers: The Story of Success al Affiliation Outliers: The Story of Success According to Gladwell (2008), the success of professional hockey players could be attributed to their birthday. This implies that individuals born within the first three months of year tend to perform better in the sport. The author links this to earlier exposure to the sport. In general, exposure and early planning are the reason as to why people proper in different fields. The author explains the 10000-hour rule argument to define success.

In this case, the Beatle perfumed more than 10000 hours during the sixties before they blasted into stardom. On the other hand, Bill Gates earlier education exposed him to computers, which was a limited accessory to other schools. During the period, Gates was exposed to computer at an earlier age. Using this principle, it is evident that earlier exposure and experience would culminate into success (Gladwell, 2008). Practical intelligence refers to the nature of an individual to study the environment and identify what actions to undertake at a particular period.

Speech and actions could be used in this type of intelligence. Analytical intelligence implies that a person needs to be smart to overcome certain challenges and portray some levels of success. In my own perceptive practical intelligence is essential and I could associate with it given the nature at which it enable a person navigate certain environmental settings (Gladwell, 2008). Gladwell (2008) links lack to the success of individual. The notion of self-made person is invalid according to the author.

These premises could be misleading given the fact that success is more of hard work than lack. The notion of luck is not applicable to my opinion. Success could be linked to environmental factors and hard work. If a person is able to gain support from the environment and use his or her experience, they should be able to succeed.Lewis Termans indentify wealth as a determinant to success. Those persons from a wealthy background tend to succeed compared to those from less fortunate families. This fact is due to the exposure and affordability of essential factors by these families.

The lack of success in this case does not imply lack of intelligence. The determinant could have an impact given the fact that education and other essential elements in society depend upon resources and access to wealth and other social determinants (Gladwell, 2008).The world is all about opportunities and perfecting on a specific component will determine how one takes opportunities with a given setting. In my line of work, there is need to focus on quality delivery and concentrating on specific elements within the working environment that will determine how I will attain success.

The Culture of honor as portrayed in the families living in Harman is attest of how geographical location shapes a person’s character. The argument could apply to the levels of success people portray in life. The environment will determine if a person pursue certain objectives in life. Just like in Harman where revenge and violence was the only source of justice. A change of location would expose a person to a cross-cultural perspective (Gladwell, 2008). In the ethical theory of plane crashes, the author defines the general performance of the airport crew and the cultural components in the Korean case.

Using Korean air as an example, it was evident that the culture at the airport attributed to the high number of air accidents. The changes done to the aviation industry was the reason as to why the airlines were able to gain international accolades. Using this case, it is evident that success could be achieved if a person accepts and changes the manner in which he or she operates (Gladwell, 2008). The Chinese culture and language makes them better at math. This is due to the brief nature of their language.

This implies that they are able to grasp large quantities of data at a particular period. Their culture is all about performing complex chores thus their experience places them at an advantage compared to their American counterparts (Gladwell, 2008). KIPP students tend to improve their educational capability compared to other public system. KIPP program provide the needed opportunities to the less privilege in societies to access education (Gladwell, 2008). Using this concept, more school days are the differences between performances from the two systems.

The more schooling days relieve the students the burden they could have experienced at home.
