Playing Games with Memory Affiliation: Score on Memory Solitaire 12/20 = 60% 2. Score on Tell Yourself a Story 17/20 = 85% In Tell Yourself a Story, I observed that I tried connecting the pictures with things I commonly do with my friend in daily life. I imagine myself watching a TV, when a fried invites me to accompany him to play bullseye game, and then see a gazelle on our way. I then imagine making a meal from wild meat, then go milk our cow, set a trap, catch the rat, feed the fish in a pot, wear a cap, cut of a branding label on my new cap using a pair of scissors while seated on a chair.

I then go for a walk in the evening where I meet an elephant, get scared and run back home. I retire to bed and dream of meeting a beer. Setting the story I a manner that I am involved in those activities helped improve my memory a lot. This strategy seems to be using the long-term memory, rather than the short-time memory in recalling. 3. Score on Wander Around Your House 7/10 = 70%Just as in the trick of Tell Yourself a Story, this third trick helps in remembering things by connecting the picture to specific locations.

In this new trick, one is connecting all of the items viewed while picturing in mind where they should be located. This trick can be applicable in solving cases that are hard to determine, especially when there is no identifiable evidence. It will be possible to use the previous experience in trying to figure out real images and their locations. Evaluation on the effectiveness of memory strategies demonstrated by the memory tasks In the first game of Score on Memory Solitaire, what is being evaluated here is that ability of a person’s memory in recalling things after viewing them in a short while.

The experiment is trying to figure the first approach of remembering, memorizing things repeatedly. Scientists consider this to be the approach of using a “working memory.” One will figure out that even if you memorize many time, there is very little improvement or no improvement at all on the ability of recalling (Rowe, 2010). This explains why the score was low (60%), implying that recalling using the “working memory” only has the ability of holding small amount of information for a relatively short time, before this information starts fading away in a short while.

In the second game of Tell Yourself a Story, the experiment is testing the ability of a person’s memory in recalling things through using a different approach of remembering. This approach is what scientists consider as “elaborative encoding” whereby something is transformed into a memory (Tuckman & Monetti, 2010). Under this approach of “Elaborative Encoding,” one has the capacity of connecting new information to the memories that already exist, and thus aids in remembering the new information more than the previous approach.

This explains the high score recorded (85%), implying that the approach helps the brain in moving list of objects from the working memory into the long-term memory. In the last game of Wander Around Your House, the experiment is testing the ability of a person’s memory in recalling things through a different approach of connecting all different things by picturing them in mind. Under this experiment, the participant in doing an extra thing, this is giving oneself a hint that helps in pulling out the memory of something.

Sometimes, all that the brain will require in order to remember something is just a little hint. This approach is also effective in remembering with the result of 70% explaining its effectiveness. The only problem with this approach is that allocating more things to remember on the same hint may end up fading the old information (Tuckman & Monetti, 2010). The approach similarly employs the use of long-term memory. References Rowe, G. (2010). Determinants of working memory performance.Tuckman, B. W., & Monetti, D. M. (2010).
