Analysis of Home Invasion Currently, the number of cases of home invasion in the society has increased tremendously. Many people are only aware of the material loss and the financial impact of such an incident. Home invasion entails an illegal and forceful entry of private property through violent means by invaders who have an intension of committing crime against the residents. Some of the crime committed includes; robbery, rape, murder, or even kidnapping. However, many people only look at the immediate loss that they have incurred. For instance, the loss of a car, household items, money, and other valuable materials which are dear to them, thereby, brings intense suffering (Fielding, 2011). Nevertheless, research indicates that people who have suffered from home invasion have other forms of sufferings. Home invasion cases psychological trauma. It takes a lot of sacrifice for some people to purchase some of their valuables. It takes them years for them to save for that car or home furniture. Therefore, once they are stolen, the person affected becomes stressed and disgusted. Research indicates that some people have developed stress-related diseases after suffering from home invasion. For instance, some people develop high blood pressure. In extreme cases, some people go ahead and commit suicide because they feel desperate after the loss (Fielding, 2011). Therefore, when a person losses property or valuable materials through home invasion, it is significant to seek help from psychiatrist. Home invasion instills fear among the victims. Many people have opted to move to other premises and leave their home after the invasion. This is because they feel uneasy in a place that they felt that they were safe. In addition, when they leave home, they feel that their home is vulnerable for break-ins. Moreover, when they are alone especially at night, they feel like they are exposed to attack or theft. The problem can even be higher if the burglars have not been caught. In such a case, the victims keep on wondering who committed the crime. They start suspecting everyone around them including their friends and neighbors. This festering distrust can complicate personal relationship and even cause more stress to the victim. Many of them opt to alienate themselves from the rest of the close members. This is because they feel like those people do not play a role in protecting them. Home invasion has a traumatic effect on the victims. When a victim experiences a horrific encounter such as robbery and sexual assault, they experience physical, mental, and emotional reactions. Following victimization after home invasion, many victims results to self blame, resentment, and sense of loss. They feel that they did not do enough to protect themselves or people who are closer to them. This can be more serious if there is loss of life. In such a case, there is a feeling of remorse and regret. The victims feel that they are responsible for the life lost. In addition, if the person was a close family member, there is a sense of loss, an aspect that can cause depression or any other health complications (Lockwood, Hoopes, & Marchetti, 2013). For the victims of sexual assault, the trauma is even deep. They questions are so nagging and nightmares are common. Furthermore, the scars are indelible and not easy to heal. They feel alienated by the society. Home invasion makes the victims to be on the lookout. Studies indicate that many people who have experienced home invasion incidents always feel insecure. They treat everyone with suspicion. In many cases, they lose their trust on the security personnel and even the close friends (Fielding, 2011). Therefore, even when faced by a tough situation, they prefer to keep it to themselves. This has a major impact on their mental stability. Home invasion can have a devastating effect on the young minds. Children are vulnerable in case of such invasion. A study indicates that children who have suffered from home invasion are affected immensely, an aspect that is replicated in their overall performance. Such children do not trust people who are close to them. In addition, they do not like sharing their internal problems with other people. In many cases, they like to alienate themselves with the rest of the children because of fear of victimization. In addition, they might get stress or suffer from stress-related ailments if the necessary interventions are undertaken. Moreover, they lose their trust on their teachers and even fail to open up to their parents. On the other hand, parents who suffer from home invasion tend to transfer their anger on their children. They do not like disturbances and they can result to insults towards their children (Healy, Cordeiro, & Artspace, 2005). This aspect may affect the children psychologically. As a result, children would feel unappreciated. Therefore, they can turn to their friends for help and love. In such cases, they can result to crime as a way of revenge. Others indulge in drug abuse as a way of seeking solace. Home invasion can make a person to have intense anger. Many of those who suffer victimization or loss of property through home invasion may result to anger. The anger is directed to other people who are close to the person. For instance, if a person holds a top position in the organization, the anger can be directed towards the subordinates. If this aspect is not controlled it can strain the person’s relationship with the rest of the people (Polak, 2013). This can aggravate the situation. Other people direct the anger to their children through beating them. In case the issue is not controlled, it can have an impact on the social life of the children. Home invasion brings shock and disbelief among the victims. It becomes hard for the victims to wrap their mind around what has just happened. They mainly feel disconnected from the event and their feelings (Johnstone & Johnstone, 2010). However, depending on the intervention, this does not last for a long time. However, for people with other body diseases, they might even suffer from heart diseases which emanates from the shock. Home invasion makes many people to feel insecure. In US, a high number of people who have applied for a gun have experienced one or more invasion. Therefore, they fear that another invasion is on the war. As a result, they employ an internal mechanism of self defense (Fielding, 2011). In case someone makes a mistake and create fear in the person, one can react in self defense. This aspect has led to many deaths in the country. Home invasion caused mistrust between couples. In many cases, these invasions have been a cause of mistrust between people who have been living together for a long period of time. Many feel that the other person has a hand in the invasion. In some extreme cases, the couples even divorce because they feel that they are not secure when they are together. On the other hand, in case the invasion involved sexual assault, one couple feels guilty, an aspect that strains the relationship (Fielding, 2011). If this situation is not arrested, the relationship can come into an abrupt end. In conclusion, every person has a stake in ensuring that there is security in the society. Home invasion has a major effect on the victims, their children, family members, and the society at large. In order to avoid such situations, people should work together with law enforcers in order to maintain security. However, in case an invasion takes place, the victims should seek help. In addition, they should not alienate themselves. In addition, they should speak out in order to relieve fear, denial, and other elements associated with such an invasion.
