Lecturer’s Testing a Hypothesis It is important for a good research to have a hypothesis that can be tested andverified. This boosts the credibility of information collected through various data collection processes. This essay will examine a formulated control experiment that tests a hypothesis. The control experiment will be designed to prove that talking on a cell phone impairs driving skills (Hinkelmann 22). In addition, it will explain the importance of a control experiment in examining the truth about the formulated hypothesis.

The research is designed in two ways. First, the researcher collects data using and fills the table below to show the relationship between talking on a cell phone and driving skills. The data may be tabulated as follows;Age of Individuals18-25(10)26-30(10)31-40(10)40 and above (10)Accidents caused when talking on cell phones8643Accidents caused by other reasons2444The data above shows that most youths use cell phones while driving. This explains why the number of accidents caused as a result of using cell phones while driving is higher in this age bracket (Goos 87).

In addition, older people rarely use cell phones while driving; therefore, the number of accidents associated with the use of these gadgets is less. The second set of data shows that cell phones are not to blame for the high number of road accidents. The data shows that motorists of all ages are prone to be involved in car accidents regardless of whether they use cell phones while driving or not. These results show that road accidents have a weak relationship with the use of cell phones. The results obtained from the control experiment shows that there are various factors that cause road accidents.

Therefore, cell phones alone cannot be the main reason why road accidents occur.Works CitedGoos, Peter. Optimal Design of Experiments: A Case Study Approach. NY: Wiley. 2011. Print. Hinkelmann, Klaus. Design and Analysis of Experiments. NY: Wiley. 2008. Print.
