Extract of sample "Creating, Sustaining and Evaluating Memories"

I remember how we lived in harmony, love and respect with my 15 siblings. It is this incident of love and living when we respected each other that I do remember the most and will never escape my memory. We used to play together, help each other, care for each other and even help each other with their household chores. This specific memory has remained strong over time since we did lots of good things to each other during times when we were both happy and sad. The fact that we treated each other with dignity and respect also made the memories stick even more. We still see each other frequently, and each time we do, through observation, the memories flow very vividly. I know that this is an accurate memory, and not something I have been told, or read since I try to remember, although certain specific things try to fade away, still I cannot forget the good life we had together when we were kids. Seeing my siblings around all the time also keeps renewing my memory of the past.

Reconstructive memory is the process of assembling information from knowledge which is stored when one tries to get a clear and coherent memory, but they cannot (Alley, 2014). I remember the incident of stroke that caught up with me when I was 21 years old. I was forced to stay in rehabilitation for 7 months before I ultimately got back well. However, due to the stroke, I realized that I had lost 30% of my childhood memory. I had to use pictures in order to reconnect certain memories I had lost. The memories could come slowly and disappear at times. This could have been because my memory had been distorted and I could only reconstruct little by little through the picture memories. The changes were therefore meant to distort my memory or block it not to remember again.
