The data was collected through observation. The researchers observed the responses of the participants. The participants comprised forty-four students from the University of Trier. The measure in collecting data was based on the level of interference: perceptual versus response flanker effects.

Results of the study

The results demonstrate that under certain conditions where vision is not available, tactile distracters are not processed up to the level of response selection. The findings also show that vision enhances tactical information processing by facilitating the use of an abstract reference frame and increasing the accessibility of proprioceptive information. The different groups scored similar marks, which supported the hypothesis of the study.

Major conclusion based on findings

The research has come with new findings that vision enhances the processing of distracting vibrotactile stimuli from perceptual congruency level to the level of response. This indicates that vision mandatory supports vibrotactile stimuli. Future research should try to manipulate the variables by using a rubber hand or virtual vision. Doing this will challenge the results and show the influence of rubber hand on vision.

Strengths of the research

The research is very essential in outlining the importance of vision in processing distracting stimuli. It shows that people will be influenced when they close their eyes to doing certain things. This is important in understanding the distracting stimuli and their relationship with the tactile sensation. An individual will not touch something he or she does not see and this notion has been elaborated by the study. Therefore, the research has strength in the way it relates to touch and vision. It benefits the quality of research because of the credibility and reliability of the findings since they can be proved in a variety of ways.

Limitation of the research

The study is limited to the number of participants who were selected. The views presented are also limited to the number of participants who took place in the study. To minimize the limitations, the researcher needs to use a cohort sample that will show similar results and minimize bias. It will comprise individuals who share common characteristics and are not influenced by bias.

What I think about the research

Human behavior is very dynamic. It is influenced by external stimuli working within the environment. The level of response depends on the individuals surrounding.
