Personal ment, Career Options Analysis Table of Contents Personal ment Career Options Analysis References Personal ment I believe I have the maturity, drive, and intellectual competence to pursue both graduate studies and gainful graduate employment in psychology. My academic training has been geared towards those, and my academic record is a testament to my earnestness, drive and passion for what I do. I love psychology and am very excited at the prospect of going deeper into the field, learning from both the classroom and the field and being able to make meaningful contributions and a positive impact on people I deal with in my work and in my studies. Looking at my academic qualifications, I have been enrolled in the honors bachelor of science program for Psychology at Middlesex University since 2010, and I have progressed significantly in that program. In 2012 I received two certificates, one for Patient Manual Handling Qualification, and another for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Qualification. Meanwhile, in 2013, I was able to get significant training in handling brain injury, mental health, and neurological conditions in general. All of these were in connection with my work with SweetTree Home Care Services. Detailing my work exposure further, since February of 2013 I have been working in Brain Injury Support for SweetTree Home Care Services. In that capacity I have been capably performing several work tasks, including providing support service tied to programmes for rehabilitation for patients with physical impairments as well as cognitive impairments; providing support tied to executive skills, including correspondence assistance, appointments management and budgeting; support relating to addressing emotional needs, the management of anger, and general management of behavior; daily living and personal care support work; life extension support through access to opportunities for employment and social interactions; and performing liaison work on behalf of and for the benefit of procuring the needs of the user of our services, with advocates, friends, families, management, and outside agencies. Prior to this role, I occupied a mental/health care assistant support role for a 70-year old woman named Aleksandra Maksymiuk, through her daughter Sylwia Maksymiuk who was my employer. In this role I provided physical and emotional support to Aleksandra as she went through her daily life, offering help with such daily tasks as cooking, shopping, and cleaning around the house. Working 30 hours every week, from Thursday to Saturday, I helped with the administration of medicine, medicine tracking, medicine storage, and the maintenance of related records. Aleksandra passed away December of last year. My academic training and my work experience tell me that I am evolving in my capabilities and in the work that I can undertake in my chosen field of psychology. I love being of service to others, and find fulfillment in both preparing myself intellectually and honing my academic training with actual daily dealings with people in need. I am passionate about the work that I do and in my studies, and I understand that being in a service work role requires enormous patience and stamina in order to serve others well. Dealing with people with very pressing needs on a daily basis is difficult but rewarding, and I have found this line of work very fulfilling personally. I believe these qualifications, coupled with my passion, will help me excel in graduate work roles and graduate academic work in psychology. Career Options Analysis At SweetTree Home Care Services the work is very challenging, but also exposes me to a very tough and rich field in which I can apply the academic aspects of my training in psychology. Dealing with the service users on a consistent basis, I am also exposed to many areas where I can hone my skills and which I can further explore in depth moving forward. Daily challenges expose me to where my strengths and weaknesses in the different aspects of work lie, and they open up opportunities too to reflect and to gauge which options will yield the most results for me, in terms of personal and career development. I find too that having had experience dealing with the elderly, that this set of service users provide their own unique challenges, that require intense academic preparation as well as emotional and psychological preparation. Hospice care comes to mind as an area that is rich with meaning for me, and also very challenging on many levels. The elderly require devoted attention, and their psychological and emotional needs spill over into needs tied to the spiritual and social aspects of old people at the end stage of their lives. Obviously even with some training academically and in terms of work exposure, I am barely covering the tip of a large iceberg, and there are so many things to explore and to learn. Because I am dealing with complex human beings, the elderly, with complex and deep needs that touch on many different aspects of their being human, the challenges are very daunting. At the same time, I see career options in my field as having to do with being of greatest service to people, and addressing very real and complex needs in their actual reality and in their actual lives. In this sense I believe that career options have to be tied first and foremost to what people need. The other aspect of course is making sure that what I pursue career-wise have to also tie in with where my strengths and greatest possible contributions lie. At this stage I believe that my best career options are those that deal directly with the complex psychological and physical needs, as well as the emotional and social needs, of the service users, rather than the administrative and management aspects of the work. The former gives me opportunities to really apply what I learn academically to real-life settings, and also gives me the most satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment in the work. On the other hand, taking a step back, I also think that I can further explore other career options tied to a different set of service users, to cover service users from different age groups. In this way I am able to expand my own perspective and my own knowledge and competencies in my field, and not just be narrowed down at this point to specific age groups. To tie everything together, I believe the best career options are those that challenge me academically and as a person, that fits in well with those things where I am able to make the most meaningful contributions, and that are tied to real pressing human needs. 2 References CV, other inputs Read More
