The therapy is to prepare them for the impairments, grief, and loss one will experience and the best way to deal with them and avoid depression or suicidal thoughts (Fine, 2013). When the patient has enough knowledge about the illness and is aware of what they will go through, acceptance starts sinking in and the reaction to the loss will not be as severe as one who has little or no knowledge whatsoever. There are medications for the severe cases of depression. To prevent suicide, the patient can be restrained and put under medication until the risk passes. The greatest treatment is having a strong social support system. Social support lessens feelings of loss and grief and enables quick coping.
